10/10My husband and I had a lovely dinner after a wonderful day touring Amsterdam. The restaurant is in a central location within the nine shopping streets. We shared edamame and a few rolls, shrimp tempura with mango, salmon avocado, and spicy tuna. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

10/10This place is a pearl in the city. I live two minute walking from here and want to eat at places that make me feel at home, so I go here. Service and quality of the food are of a caliber that makes me at ease. This is a scarce resource around here. Kagetsu is precious.

8/10Had a nice meal with friends and it's wasn't too busy so it wasn't too loud. However as it was quiet, it meant we had to keep calling the waiting staff when we wanted to order something, not a big deal but more so you are aware. Staff were friendly, food was good except for the tori karaage, didn't like that as much.

10/10I really enjoyed the Japanese atmosphere and the quality of the food. Very close to the real japanese food. We had udon soup and it was really good! The price is in line with Amsterdam price around 30 euro per person for starter, udon and drink. Recommended.

3.5/10The reastaurant did not register our reservation and we had to wait for the table to be free. Afterward (15 mins?) we ordered, the waiter didn’t tell us anything about availability, they brought the drinks and some appetizer and they told us that basically ALL the dishes we chosed were unavailable, We had to pay full price for the stuff they brought and we left,,, looking for a better restaurant. Avoid it, there is so much choice in Amaterdam.

8/10Super tasty food, however the service was mediocre: when we finished our food it took long to take our empty plates, same with drinks and not being asked if we wanted new drinks. The music was just top40 hits but with saxophone covers, really distracting and not adding to the ambience.

2.5/10Poor service . Very long waiting time . Waited 30 min to get our drinks served only to be told that they don’t have the drinks available (green tea). Never heard of a Japanese restaurant without green tea. We left without ordering. Not recommended.

4.5/10The menu says king crab California role. As this is rare i double check. Sadly the fake fish crab sticks show up instead. That spoils the rest. Uncomfortable chairs.

6/10The food itself was fine, the service was too slow, it took forever to clean the tables and the prices were quite high. I reserved a table hours before and we got the worst table and just by asking got a better one after half an hour. It feels like this place aims for customers who are just coming once and then never again.

9/10Amazing sushi!! The sashimi and nigiri was just perfect, you could tell the fishes and seafood were really fresh and of good quality. The starters we had (seafood tempura and gyozas) as well as the drinks (warm sake and white wine) were also good, but more on the okay side than amazing. Service was good and the atmosphere nice. Overall, a great experience, all thanks to the amazing sushi!

10/10We enjoy eating at sushi restaurants frequently and, although unsure about sushi in Amsterdam, were very impressed with this place. Everything we ordered was served with generous portions of fish. Salmon nigiri had a generous piece of salmon on each piece, and the rainbow roll was outstanding, with lots of salmon and tuna. The shrimp tempura roll had bits of mango and sauce which was altogether absolutely outstanding. They also had a nice selection of Japanese beers, and I enjoyed my usual Sapporo. Whenever reviewing a sushi place I wait until the next day to be sure everyone is still feeling good, and so I can tell you the sushi we enjoyed yesterday at Kagetsu was fresh as well as delicious!

About this restaurant
Enjoy yourself in the Hartenstraat, which is of course easy in this cozy part of Amsterdam. Yet there is for Japanese cuisine lovers one place that stands out here, namely restaurant Kagestu. The interior is designed with sense. The Amsterdam prints are made with a nod to the Japanese style. The hospitality fills the room with relaxation and friendliness. An environment where you like to enjoy the Japanese culinary traditions.
