10/10The best restaurant we ate at in Portugal from start to finish!! (And we are foodies!) The food was outstanding! From the taste to the presentation, well done! We had two starters, two entrees and one dessert and all were exceptional! The waiter Imo is one of the best in the business. Friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable (he made great recommendations). He also had the right amount of touch points (being there when you needed him but also giving you space to enjoy your meal). He recommended the house wine and brought a taste of it, saying we didn’t have to keep it if we didn’t like it. It was great! Imo also poured only half the glass while we had our appetizers (so the wine wasn’t warm for our entrees) and then topped us off for the entrees. What a nice touch for chilled wines by the glass! Chef came around to greet us. A nice touch that allowed us to tell him how wonderful his food was! This meal was the surprise of our trip and a bonus as it is 5 min from the shrine at Fatima. A++

10/10From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding—welcoming, attentive, and genuinely friendly. The staff went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. Every dish exceeded our expectations. It’s clear that both the kitchen and front-of-house teams take pride in what they do. Highly recommended— when we revisit Fatima we will definitely be coming back to A Cave restaurant!

7.5/10Restaurant is about 20 minutes walk from the Sanctuary and 20 minutes from the Museum of Aljustrel. Server was very nice and made recommendations for the mains which turned out to be delicious (octopus and a slow cooked veal). Dishes and wine were reasonably priced. Only thing that I did not appreciate was that another server brought over a platter of antipasto (olives, prosciutto type ham, squash and warm bread) and placed it on our table without asking us or letting us know it would cost 9 euros. It’s one thing if they want to give us a complementary platter but I don’t think they should assume we will pay for it. We did end up taking it because they said the shrimp appetizer that were ordered would take 15 minutes and we were hungry. However, their approach was a bit off putting. Overall a good experience and would recommend.

9/10The owner was great. Explained in detail how they made their dishes down to the fact that they make their own unsalted butter with garlic and parsley- yum! The restaurant is very cool. It has an open kitchen as well. We had a great experience.

10/10Angelo took the trouble to explain every dish, including the types of port wines, all done with a big smile. The food was delicious and the portions big. The bread was fresh and crusty, and it came with in-house pumpkin paste and garlic butter. The place was spotless and the tablecloth pristine. It made our 20th wedding anniversary evening.

9.5/10A Cave is a real find - family operated and patronized by locals. It’s very unassuming from the street - you’ll walk one flight down to the restaurant and enter a nice dining area. The wait staff was great and spoke English - a big plus for us. We started with the charcuterie board and followed with tuna and octopus - all were excellent. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the local wines and paired our dishes nicely. I would recommend you consider A Cave if you want to experience a lunch/dinner away from the tourist areas while visiting Fatima.

10/10This restaurant is a must visit, when you are in Fatima! Great service and such a welcoming and attentive team will leave nothing to be desired. The chef owner came out to give us a wine recommendation and I love his passion for the local (and absolutely fantastic) wine! The food itself was a delight and you would find yourself hard pressed to find this kind of quality for such reasonable prices. Seasoning was spot on and the dishes were cooked with great care. Thank you for this great experience and I will definitely drop by again!

10/10It was a wonderful experience of epicurean excellence. Small restaurant with great service and culinary art level of earthy bites of home cooking. We had 4 dishes and all of them were delicious and amazingly prepared. The shrimps appetizer was fresh and seasoned to the best. The bread was freshly baked, crunchy and hot. Needless to say, we soaked up every drip of sauce on the plate. The secondi was Mediterranean Sea bass fillets. It was meticulously prepared with innovative and tons of flavor. As our host, Angelo, gave us the run down of this dish, I felt the sense of pride as a father telling you of his son’s soccer game. The fillets were cooked perfectly with crispy skin and tender flaky white juicy meat. It rested on a hump of delicious seafood pudding, with a careful swipe of garlic aioli on the plate. A poached cherry tomato sat on a pickled onion bench watching the show to start. All the while, a purple dusting of red cabbage lightly sprinkled around. The seafood pudding was a burst of flavor from the ocean, it had good texture and unpretentious. The pickled onion was a perfect balance to the richness of shrimp and clams. Then we had the short ribs. It was a 6-hour braising of a 12-hour marinade cut, The bone-in meat pieces were sat on finely puréed potatoes with a generous portion of rustic black eye peas and wilted cabbage. Just when we thought we are done with flavor town, Angelo brought over our dessert of Rice pudding. It was beautifully dusted with cinnamon over the not so traditional dessert, a quiet crispy rice paper chip sat proudly on top. The companion of the ice cream was a traditional arroz doce churned into a delicious ice cream treat. Very interesting of a show down to be the star of the show. The bill of this lunch was more than fair. We had a very enjoyable time.
