Amazing fondue, service and environment

In an era of concept restaurants, chic taverns and viral dishes, a breath of fresh air can come from the traditional. The Altair restaurant is not a particularly glamorous place, but it ends up being familiar. We were warmly welcomed by a lady who recommended the fondue. We accepted her suggestion and ordered two glasses of wine, which, incidentally, were superbly served. Meanwhile, a plate of meat and fruit, sauces and fondue arrived. We got down to business, dipping the meat in the oil and trying the different sauces. The degree of doneness is up to each person's taste, but the quality of the meat is unanimous. The fruit is a good complement, although the chips are some of the best we have ever tasted. In the end, we left satisfied and certain that simple things done well can still rule the roost.

The return to the Altair for our last night in Portugal was the experience we had hoped for after our slightly rushed initial visit on arrival. The food is cooked to order and includes some delicious Portuguese originals, the cooking and origins of which were described to us in great detail. It has been memorable for all the best reasons.

Excellent attentive service making us feel welcome after a flight delay upset our timings. Enjoyed the retro cheese fondue and would like to check out some more Portuguese dishes

We went for dinner. the service was amazing and the meat real tender. however, the fries seemed to have been re-fried from the lunch leftovers... we asked to change and they brought us a fresh one.

Family atmosphere in an old world room. Food was winter comfort - we ate two kinds of fondue and soup. Sangria was the perfect accompaniment.

Overall ok experience, but you should improve service (more than 1 waiter), as service took too long. Portions were enough, but quality wasn’t what was expected according to ratings.., fair priced though.

We are for the first time in Lisbon and we wanted to visit traditional Portuguese restaurant that is mostly preferred by locals. And we had one of the most memorable lunches at our lives - our host and manager of the venue, Katya, hosted as very warmly and consulted as in the best possible way. She tackled all our food preferences and managed to offer us the amazing food of the chef - Eduardo. The price range is superb and affordable and we encountered only locals spending their time there.

Good food as always. Excellent service, attentive and courteous. Ventilation needs to be improved as odours from kitchen find their way to dining room. Chair cushions need to be washed.

Outstanding dining experience at a restaurant with fantastic service, delicious food, and incredible dessert. The bife à Portuguesa was the standout dish, cooked to perfection and topped with a rich and savory Portuguese sauce. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Will comeback again 10/10

As always, food is good and. The waiter is very friendly and service is courteous. Ambience-wise, ventilation could be better and there is no view.

Quite attentive service in a cosy and quiet restaurant., offering enough space between tables for a quiet conversation. Prices are very reasonable and represent an excellent deal considering the quality of what is served, whether fish or meat.

Excellent food, as always. Service was great, faster than normal. Dining room was very quiet today -- comparing with weekends when families usually bring the kids.

This restaurant had a very misleading high score it does not deserve and I am writing this comment in order to protect other clients from making the same mistake i did when choosing it. This is a small and noisy restaurant, where the food is of no interest at all, less than in a cafeteria. It is curious how it got a score above 9 , while ist should be around 4.

Consistently good food -- not only fondue. Friendly and professional waiter. Nice dining room but some odours may arise when client's are eating fondue. Finding a spot nearby to park car my be a challenge.

Good food, friendly cook, corteous staff! Ambience is correct but odours from oil boiling in fondues are a nuisance. Car parking nearby is a challenge.

Service is now of great kindness, alongside the already known great food. This restaurant is a superb value for money and always rewarding to visit.

As usual, good food and courteous service. It is a pity that room temperature was too high because this was a very hot day. It may be difficult to park your car nearby.

Excellent restaurant! We loved the presentation and ambiance!! Great quality beef combined with delicious fresh fruit was super nice! The owner was really friendly and we loved his attention to detail, like a lit candle!! We highly recommend this restaurant and experience!!

Foundue was really good and all staff was super kind. In terms of price/quality it is a very good bet and so I would recommend. Also they have like a separate room which is great for group meals.

This is the restaurant where I feel the safest they follow all the pandemic guidelines and the food remains really tasty as well. It has become a place to come for every occasion

Good product and traditional recipes, a perfect mix to try the Portuguese tastes. A good place to visit if you are in the area, and want something really local.

Despite being a Friday evening, the restaurant was quite empty because it was in the quiet time between Christmas and New Year. Friendly, efficient service, well prepared and cooked food. I had duck breast, my companions had salmon and tuna; all of which are easy to cook badly, all of which were cooked to perfection. Very nice desserts and good wine selection. Only downside is that the restaurant takes debit cards or cash only.
