10/10The best diner we had in Portugal! Everything about As Velhas was a 10. The food was exceptional and our waiter paired wines that complimented our meals. If you are in Lisbon, please go here. You won’t regret it.

10/10Quite traditional Portuguese food and atmosphere but not in the least 'stuffy'. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We were a party of 4 so sampled a wide selection of the menu - all excellent. This was very convenient for our AirBnB however its proximity to Avenida de Libertad would make it a great alternative for anyone seeking a change from the more touristy restaurants in downtown.

7/10The meal was expensive and were all prepared with far too much salt content. We started with tempora prawns which was covered in thick batter and wás salty. I had the fish stew and my wife had the steak with mushroom sauce, both were very salty. A cheaper and better meal could be had at other local restaurants.

8/10It seems that they need more staff. There were only two men to take care of the entire restaurant and they seemed overwhelmed. The food came out quickly ( maybe too quickly) and all of it was amazing but then we waited 30 minutes after asking for the check ( twice) before I finally had to get up and physically hand my card to the waiter telling him we had to go as our dog was waiting in the hotel. He seemed irritated that I couldn’t wait any longer. And then he asked me about s tip. I wanted to tell him that tips meant “ ToInsurePromptService” but not sure he would’ve understood the irony. I noticed most of the other diners were facing similar challenges getting their check. Sadly the end of the meal soured the whole experience. With one or two more staff(maybe just to clear tables etc) the place could be perfect.

9.5/10Fantastic Portuguese food (we ordered polvo and bacalhau). The service was superb, the waiters even offered us a piece of a traditional dessert to try (and a couple of shots). Highly recommended!

7/10Server Paulo was rude and refused to . apologize, even when confronted with a "reduced gratuity" alternative. Otherwise the food was very good as was the ambience.

10/10After reviewing scores of options and guest reviews, I reserved a table for 4 well in advance of our trip. When checking into our hotel, I solicited our concierge's opinion. He was very enthusiastic in his praise of As Velhas and, happily, we were all right, as Velhas lived up to the commentary. We ordered tapas to share, following recommendations of our server and each of us ordered a different entree. All four of us agree that this was our best meal while visiting Lisbon for 4 nights. But -- What changed a dinner reservation to a stellar evening was its owner, Guadalupe. She greeted, seated and spent time with each table throughout our nearly 4-hour visit. When she joined us, it was as though we had known each other for years. She is so authentic, warm and genuinely concerned about her guests' experiences. It is obvious that her restaurant and guests are her passion and that her adopted city of Lisbon (she hails from Madrid). As the dining room cleared, she lavished us with even more attention, pouring us the smoothest Port that we tasted during our visit (high praise from me as I'm not typically a Port fan). She made us all feel special and valued. She even gave me her cell phone number should we have any questions during our Lisbon visit. I did not avail myself of it, but I've kept it for future planning and to let her know when friends will be visiting as we've already told friends traveling to Lisbon in the fall that As Velhas is a must-go. When we return, As Velhas will be at the very top of our list!

10/10Had a very enjoyable dinner here. We all ordered the grilled sea bass, so luckily we liked it! The green bean tempura, salad, and soup starters were also very good. Price seemed in line wth food quality/atmosphere. Waiters were dressed in uniforms and were friendly and attentive. Note, like in most restaurants in Portuga, you are charged for the bread, butter, olives, that are put on the table when you arrive so only keep them if you want them! We were surprised when we were asked if we wanted to top 5, 10 or 15% at the end of the meal as we hadn't experienced this elsewhere and hope it wasn't because we were tourists. If you visit in nice weather there are a couple of outdoor tables but it was too cold the night we were there.

8/10This restaurant was highly recommended. In an odd location. Food was just above good. Not much variety for the non meat eater. Dessert was the highlight. Service had to be solicited. They must have been short handed when we were there

10/10We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff, especially Antonio who was particularly attentive. Starters of tempura prawns and mushrooms with ham were followed by grilled sea bass and monkfish with rice. Everything was beautifully cooked, presented and tasted delicious. We cannot recommend a visit to As Velhas highly enough. You will not be disappointed!

7.5/10Disappointing start as, although we had booked on line (as per restaurant’s preference) several days in advance, when we arrived, we were largely ignored until those those who had turned up ‘on spec’ were accommodated. We were then allocated an inferior table. We raised this with our waiter, who was extremely apologetic and went out of his way to ensure that we had an enjoyable evening. We commend him for this. Conversely, his manager was more interested in allocating blame than accepting error. Our meal, however did not disappoint although it was a shame that the rabbit dish that had been recommended was not available.

10/10Our dinner last night was so well prepared, the service was the best in Portugal, and the comfortable atmosphere always stays the same (we were here 3 years ago). As Velhas is a must for all visitors.

10/10My 5th time here, and I expect to do 5 more. My favourite restaurant in Portugal hands down. Rabbit and Coffee Steak are some of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten.

7.5/10The food was excellent and initially service was good - two old fashion gents in smart gear were attentive and on the balls. But there were only two and the service imploded after our mains were served. They didn’t follow up on desert and focused on new arrivals. There needed to be three waiters and it would have been an all round excellent experience.

8.5/10Very nice place serving traditional Portuguese food. Excellent gray-haired waiters. (Means they make decent earnings and have doing so for some time.) Good wine list. Pork with chestnuts is very good.

6.5/10A charming interior, typically old-school Portuguese, and charming personnel who generate a fine sense of being welcomed as if old friends. The fish simply served and nicely cooked in a traditional style, the shellfish rather ordinary but cried up as excellent, the meat very normal, neither good nor bad, the wine well chosen, the deserts very good. You will pay a premium for the style while the food underperforms.

10/10Antonio our waiter made our whole dining experience incredible. From providing the wine recommendations to joking with us and making us smile and laugh. The food was out of this world; the best meal I've had in a long time! We already have reservations to go again!

9/10Food tasted good and the waitress and waiter are really nice and friendly. But I was disappointed with how high the prices are in comparison to other restaurants that serve comparable dishes. At the price point of 16€ for grilled seabass, ca. 24/25 for an octopus and 10€ for a glass of wine I expect the dishes to surprise me.

5/10Overpriced, slow, mediocre wine (they didn't let us choose it) , only the starters were acceptable, mandatory tip. The Waiters were very slow and often ignored us.

10/10The staff was absolutely amazing! The lady who served us also gave us tips on what to see around Lisbon and we weren't disappointed bu her recommendations! The food was absolutely fantastic, fresh and flavourful! Me and my friend were treated like royal. We've never been to a restaurant where we were called by name!
