Nice food. Very attentive, polite service. The 'edge' was taken off slightly by the body odour of the waitress, which was over-powering, and lingered long after she'd left the table.

Captain cook restaurant has a wide and varied menu to suit most but it was the staff that made our visit and meal memorable and very personable. We timed our meal to be finished in time to go to the Menin Gate ceremony, it's only a 2 minute walk away. The staff advised us that we wouldn't have time for a starter as well so we just had main course before going to the Gate. They very kindly kept our table free so we could go to the service and return to have dessert and then coffees afterwards. It made the whole evening one to remember. A couple of us, we were 6 in total, had steaks and they were probably the best steaks we've had in a long time. We booked out table for 6pm and didn't leave until about 9.45, with the service in the middle. Would happily come back again.

The Flemish stew was poor, bland and the steak was so fatty and gristle. Ended up with less than half of the meal due to that. If I was a staff member I would have seen my plate and apologised, I could have moaned but really didn’t know what to say. My husband’s meal again looked like a large pastie but with plastic ham and cheese and the sauce was not great. Sadly will not be eating there again

I went to your table and asked if you enjoyed your meal and you said yes, if you didn't finish your meal, than I assume it was too much as our portions are quit large. Just off the main square and down from the Menin Gate the restaurant is perfectly located. Staff were really friendly and attentive, we were made very welcome. Generous portions with homemade desserts.

"Slow service" pop in at 18:30 in a full restaurant to eat in an hour to attend the ceremomy. People book much earlier when they go to a service. The restaurant is located close to the gate. All our customers are Last Post guests. First in is first out, there's no priority if you book your table that late. Anyway, thanks for your feedback. I wish you tried another busy restaurant at that time, You could attend the ceremony next day!

Ended up eating here twice during a 4 night trip. Lovely food and staff. Portions sizes large and good value. All choices good but espescially nice were the steaks and peppercorn sauce delicious

Tried this restaurant as read the reviews on TripAdvisor, great welcome on arrival and quickly seated. Great service, all 4 of us had the Flemish beef stew and it was brilliant. Great restaurant and very friendly staff! Well done to all!

Visiting Ypres for a 3 day tour of the WW1 sites. Had pre booked Captain Cook on its reviews. Had a fabulous meal and dessert. It was very tasty indeed and backed up by great service from the girls in charge that evening. Reasonably priced and the restaurant was nice and busy which led to a great atmosphere. No language barrier as everyone speaks English. How lucky we are. Big thank you for a wonderful evening.
