We should have known this place was going to be bad when we walked down a long dirty road along an overpass. Then the staff were wearing togas. We decided to lean in and give it a shot. What we got was an overpriced wine (28€ in restaurant and 5€ at the nearby carrefour), terrible smoked salmon rolls with mayonnaise, and a completely undercooked / cold white fish. The table next to us sent back 3/4 of their meals for being undercooked or cold, and that should have been a sign as well. The waiters hovered like hawks near each table. The entire experience was uncomfortable, pricey (they even charged us a cover per person as opposed to table), and regretful. Do not recommend. Just eat in Naples if you can.

I went to experience the traditional menu of Ancient Roman cuisine and because of the good reviews. Will not judge food in it self, since I could not say it was bad, but it didn’t suit my taste. However what I found disappointing was quality of service. It was evident that they felt uncomfortable with a person dining alone… it’s been something common in Pompei so far, but it called my attention. Throughout the night I felt they were rushing me to eat and service was very impersonal, also by the end of my dinner a couple came to dine and then I realised that they offered customers to wear a traditional tunic but I was never offered to wear one… wine also was not good quality.

The Ancient Roman traditions and the way they eat and drink just made me want to do it and the inside restaurant were amazing. One thing they could of changed was the music such as traditional Roman music.

Friendly staff , decent meal. Prices are comparable to other place. It was fun to put on a costume they lend you to get into the Roman ambiance. (Wearing the costume is optional).

Our experience was soooo good and the food was excellent, Augustine was our waiter and he was so so patient and personable. The lady had us dress up in Roman attire and took several pictures of us. I would highly recommend Caupano in Pompei Italy.

I didn't realize how special this restaurant was when we decided on it, so was very pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the menu. We were able to eat types of food that we hadn't seen on our trip, and were definitely more traditional to early Pompeii, like venison. The addition of robes to wear for the whole family was just adorable, and even my teenagers thought it was fun.

We absolutely loved our evening at Caupona. When we arrived, they welcomed us in with warmth and immediately set about dressing my wife an I in traditional Pompeii dress. Our daughter was tired so didn’t follow suit, but she did find it all very amusing! We then enjoyed a surprising menu of meats, vegetables and incredible tastes. My daughter, being five, enjoyed a tomato pasta dish, offered by our attentive waiter. The Pompeii local wine has a lovely Smokey taste to it and complemented the hearty food perfectly. Would highly recommend a visit!

Food was terrible. I would not return just because of the food. It’s very deceiving because they have high reviews on google and otherwise but it was not good. I had octopus, mozerella caprese, and pasta with clams. The pasta was the worst. It had a terrible smell and I did not see any clams.

This was such a fun evening, even though I was on my own. There was a warm welcome and you just have to enter into the spirit of dressing up! The service was very good, without being intrusive. The food was excellent, beautifully prepared, and arrived piping hot.

First of all, I want to sigh the environment, the really beautiful garden. Give people a comfortable and enjoyable mood. The service is also very good, I really like the service staff here, they are hospitable and professional. The food, of course, is what we like very much, the price is right, and the seafood is fresh. This is the restaurant that makes me want to eat again, and I will definitely come again if I have the chance. Recommended to my friends!

This restaurant was completely unexpected, we chose the restaurant because of the good reviews online and having recently visited Pompeii I was interested to see how they would replicate the authentic cuisine and decor. We went for the authentic ancient Pompeii menu and we were not disappointed. Every dish was amazing, the atmosphere and ambience were spot on and the hosts could not have been more attentive. It's a little bit off the Beaten Track but very close to Pompeii itself only 5 minutes by car or a 15-minute walk. If you don't have long make sure you don't miss this little gem!

This restaurant was an amazing find! The food was excellent and the ambiance was exquisite! They even had us put on our own Roman robes! The restaurant was family owned and run and the people there were so kind and fun. We were their only customers tonight and I can’t believe this place wasn’t packed. Best food and experience in Italy thus far!

The food was incredible, the staff were wonderful, and the atmosphere was simply beautiful, decorated with images of ancient frescoes, solid wooden tables and big goblets for wine. It is clear the owners and staff put a lot of care and attention to detail into creating a wonderful experience for visitors, foodies and history buffs alike! The approach to the restaurant is not indicative of the food, staff and the setting inside. The chef does a great job with the food and menu. The four of us enjoyed the fish dish, , lamb, veal, and gnocchi. The caprese appetizer was very good. House wine was good and a great value. Service was exceptional. The staff wears a toga as a part of their uniform, but don't let this give you any preconceived notions. The food and service are all high quality.

Caupona was more than good food, it was a wonderful and memorable experience. We took the ancient menu, which consisted of 4 very high-quality plates from a meticulous chef. Given that it was ancient Roman-style, it also happened to be pretty healthy. The knowledgeable and friendly waiters elevated the experience even more. From the frescoed walls to the drinking cups to the food and beverage (they even had mulsum), we really enjoyed dining like Roman senators! If you are visiting Pompei, skip the ultra-touristy restaurants around the site and take the short walk to Caupona (10 minutes). You will certainly be rewarded for it.

We loved this Roman-themed restaurant just in front of Pompeii Ruins. Waiters were super lovely with us and we had an amazing experience dressed as Romans and eating a traditional ancient menu.

This was a really special lunch following a wonderful tour of Pompeii. While it might appear to appeal to tourists because of the ancient Pompeii theme to the decor, the chef truly is inspiring and every dish was delicious!! Would 100% recommend

A wonderful experience, dictated by an impeccable service, courteous and prepared in every detail, in step with the care for the creation of the place, which really seems to have come out of Pompeii two thousand years ago. Recommended for a nice evening in sweet company, by candlelight with exquisite food and excellent wine. A perfect evening in a magical place.

Getting to the restaurant was a bit tricky due to fact that the entry is hidden and down a long narrow alley. Once you get there the building is beautifully set amongst a lovely garden. We were warmly greeted me given a brief history lesson about the name of the restaurant etc….once inside we became aware that this was not only a place to eat food from 79 AD bye gone era but we were also expected to dress the part. Yes, you are given toga garb to dine in! Very interesting in deed. Ambiance and service were top notch but the food could have been a bit tastier, hotter, and better priced. Definitely a place to to if you’d like to step back in time and enjoy the lovely painted faux frescos. Food is just ok though.

Caupona is in a very central location. The road leading to the restaurant doesn’t look very appealing, but once you get to the entrance gate, you will be pleasantly surprised by the decor, atmosphere, and friendly & attentive staff. The food was delicious, best salmon I’ve ever had. They are a bit pricey, but I suppose what one would expect considering their proximity to the ruins. This is definitely quality over quantity. The cover charge & gratuity, which is stated in the menu, is added to the bill. All things considered, I would go back again

What a great place in Pompeii. We came here on a recommendation and it was a wonderful evening. Great service, atmosphere and food. We chose the ancient food deal for 35 euros and it was delicious. We dressed up and had a laugh and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. This place is a gem!
