The food was delicious, the waitstaff delightful. The owner was there and asked how we enjoyed the meal. This was our best dining experience in Holland.

We enjoyed a fine meal at De Fortuna when visiting Edam during a cycling trip. Cuisine was cooked to a high standard. Service was a little slow although the restaurant was full. Overall we had a memorable stay and would recommend the restaurant to others. There aren't many choices in Edam so do book ahead!

Beautiful restaurant in a stunning village. We ha d a good dinner except the cheese plate which was not a success for us. The wine was very good also

Food was ok, nothing spectacular, which we didn’t expect. Service was like most places in The Netherlands, pretty bad. Ask to take your order for drinks, beg for a menu, dirty/empty plates was sitting so long on the table, we just left in the end. Sadly, I don’t think they mean bad, but just don’t know how to provide good service.

breakfast very small :-( no warm dishes like scrumbled eggs or bacon, eggs must be bolied on ist own, only 2 kind of cheese and 4 of sausages, no fish diner only offers about 5-6 main dishes, more choice - especially for children - would be great.

Thank you for your response. Too bad that you did not like your stay. However, our hotel breakfast is richer than you suggest. We have 8 types of meat products instead of 4. We serve 5 types of cheese: Edam, Gouda, brie, cammembert and cheese spread. And on request we always prepare scrambled eggs and bacon. And cooking your eggs yourself is very popular with our guests. Our dinner options are also much more extensive than you claim. Our menu offers 6 starters, 6 main courses and 6 desserts and changes every 5 to 6 weeks. In addition, there is a weekly changing menu from the market (5 courses!) and an ever-changing children's menu! During your stay we had 4 types of fish on the menu: salmon, butterfish, cod and fish from the auction. In your Google review you are talking about a very nice location and very nice atmosphere, very friendly staff, but why do you honor our service and atmosphere in your IENS review so little (2 resp. 2)? Anyway, we hope you will visit us in future again to give us a 2nd chance.

Went for dinner with family here. The starters were average. Some of us had the carpaccio (which was not home made) and the salmon tartar. The taste was ok. For main course only the Tournedo was tasty, but you have to be really an amateur cook to spoil a good piece of meat. However the wild goose and the wild duck meat were really bad, rubbery, not tasty at all. The choices for desert were poor and the one we choose were terrible. Salty chocolate mousse which was so salty that we had to drink a litter of water afterwards and the grilled apricot with ice cream had no taste at all. When asked if we enjoyed the meals we said the truth but the answer was not really appreciated by the personnel. So why ask if you do not want to know what the customer thinks? I do not recommend this place. There are plenty of other restaurants in Edam, so do not get trapped in this one. Even tough the rooms are charmingly decorated, you will not go away with a good feeling I am afraid.
