A bit pricey but worth it! Excellent service and superb food quality!

The venue looks ‘high end’ but only one to two staff could speak and understand English “fairly”. Food are generally good except that a staff strongly requested us (6 ppl) to order 4-ppl portion of seafood rice while we intended to order 2-ppl portion only. They served us with 6 plates of rice which were too much for us. If we were allowed to order a smaller portion, we could have tried more seafood dishes. And the seafood rice was too salty. Anyway.

A WONDERFUL seafood experience, away from the tourist crush of Puerto del Sol. Our prawns were fabulous, the clams marniere outstanding, my wife's sole was done to perfection as was my octopus. My only negative comment would be that the octopus was over seasoned with paprika, but that was easily rectified with the sauce from below. I think that all of these El Barril restaurants are owned by the same company - or at least they have the same website design and very similar menus, particularly when it comes to the prawns. Note - the prawns are sold by the kilogram, which is a little odd for Americans. I ordered two of the prawns, and the waiter took that to mean 200 grams. For reference, there are about 5 white prawns per 100 grams, 2-3 red per 100 grams, and 1-2 of the large red per 100 grams. There were only locals here - no other Americans that we saw - so I guess this was the authentic Madrid seafood experience. Very highly recommended.

We ate our final meal in Madrid here—it was the perfect capstone to an amazing trip. The staff were super attentive, even going as far as seating us early/before they opened for dinner. (We arrived 18 minutes for an 8:30 reservation.) For our meal we had oysters, croquettes, and bonuellos (misspelled). We then split black rice with calamari and squid ink along with a pasta dish with pan fried clams.it was the perfect amount of food for three adults and one child. We’d definitely go back.

The food was very good and traditional but the ambiance was a little off and not necessarily my taste. Great food though.
