onsidering the restaurant’s price level, the service did not meet the standards I expected. Drinks were not offered proactively, and I had to specifically ask for the wine list. There were several language barriers between English and Spanish when placing our food order, and the staff had to clarify it multiple times. The food itself is high quality and fully meets the level one would anticipate. The servers are present and extremely polite, but unfortunately that does not compensate for the level of professionalism I expect from a restaurant in this price range.

El Chato offers elegant, modern Spanish cuisine in a stylish setting, with delicious rice dishes, generous portions, and attentive service — perfect for an evening out. The burrata salad was fresh and beautifully presented, and the squid & octopus black rice was full of flavor (and very generous — we even took leftovers home!). Service was attentive and efficient, though a touch more warmth from the staff would have made it even better. A great spot for dinner with friends or a date night.

My 2nd visit to el Chato - This Spanish seafood spot nails my Spanish seafood fantasy—mostly. Let’s begin with the misfires: my wife’s queso frito arrived with a glaring misstep—still cold in the middle, as if rushed from fryer to plate. A dish reliant on molten indulgence shouldn’t require a leap of faith. My garlic prawns, however, were textbook—plump, swimming in garlicky oil that demanded bread-mopping. Redemption came via the whole John Dory—a magnificent specimen, impeccably fresh and cooked to flaky perfection. Crispy chips and blistered padrón peppers (with their Russian roulette heat) completed the plate, we asked for Allioli we think this should be included with the dish, I just missed a slice of lemon. This was unshowy seafood mastery, absolutely delicious. Service shone: waiters spoke English with effortless charm, and were super attentive. Verdict? That John Dory alone warrants a return visit. Just let the cheese melt next time. Thank you!

This is the third time we have visited El Chato and every time it has been excellent. It has a modern styling but still embraces tradition (I love the fact the waiters show you the fish you’ll be eating before it goes to the kitchen!), and I think the service and food is amongst, if not the, best in town. If you are staying near Los Alcazares, make a reservation here, and order the octopus!

Delicious food, lovely staff as they gave great service. The seafood paella was divine!!! The Iberian pork was the best pork I’ve ever had! Definitely planning to return. Not if when.

Lovely lunch, clams starter was delicious. Steamed mussels had not be cleaned correctly and had the beard left in, very off putting. Main course lobster paella was amazing! Female server was very friendly and helpful.

Our reservation worked fine. The starters tuna tatami and salmon were amazing . Their olive oil was super tasty . Great choice of vermouth and wines. Mains we had sea bass and goat shoulder. Portions were decent and meat was well cooked. Some parts of the shoulder were too dry . We were seated outside and it’s actually in a side street. The total bill was 99 euros for two without dessert so a bit pricey for the region . Overall a good experience

My wife and I made reservations to this restaurant not knowing what to expect. We had a wonderful meal with a starter, and entree of fresh fish. The chef did a great job on the fish and the presentation of the food was in the Michelin star range. Our waiter and his staff was top notch. We are in the town for a two week holiday and will definitely return to the restaurant prior to our departure!

When we arrived the waiter said we hadn't reserved a table. I showed him the confirmation email from the fork website and he was very rude and said it was false! A waitress then came and showed us to a table, the restaurant was very hot & uncomfortable. My father ordered entrecot steak and there was so much fat and gristle on the steak he was unable to eat it. When we told the waiter he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away! So my father was expected to pay €24 for a meal he couldn't eat as the entrecot was that bad. My husband had the goat and I had pork and they were both lovely dishes. Overall the experience was bad due to extremely poor customer service. We will not be returning.

Perfect traditional spanish restaurant with excellent home-made food, very nice vermouth menu and quick service. Fantastic rice dishes!!!! The price-quality level is very good.

Wonderful restaurant with a super feeling. Food was excellent, service better. Although their English was as limited as our Spanish we worked it out and they couldn’t do enough for us. Sea Bass for two was to die for.

Food was beautiful and staff were excellent, sorry it was our 1st time being there in 17 years but we have highly recommended it and will absolutely be back!

My wife and I ate at el Chato tonight , we were made to feel very welcome, the service was very good, the food was excellent I had belly pork and my wife had pork shoulder both were superb, the best desert ever was the fried milk, ( not as it sounds) I would say it’s a cinnamon bake panacotter . Amazing. Highly recommend this place away from the usual tourist restaurants . ..excellent
