The food and service is excellent, the best we have experienced in Carvoeiro. We have visited twice in the last week, most recently on 1st April 2026 for my husbands birthday. We cannot speak highly enough of the staff, chefs and the delicious food, it tastes incredible is top quality and the staff are so knowledgeable about the wines abd cannot do enough for you. This is our favourite place and worth every single penny.

We arrived 10 minutes early, having booked for 7:30pm 2 weeks previous. Etxea is not a cheap restaurant, but as we had been apart for 6 weeks, we thought we would" treat" ourselves. On arrival we were told our table was not ready (we were a little early) and to come back at our booked time. We stood outside in the rain, as there was nowhere to shelter, and impossible to drink in a bar and return in 10 minutes! On return at 7:30pm we were told the table was still not ready and to come back again at 8:00. We were not prepared to do this. We had booked in advance and the restaurant had knowingly given our table to someone else in the full knowledge that they had our booking. This is a very unprofessional and unacceptable. The tables were too close together, so no privacy possible. We won't be returning and are disgusted that a restaurant of this alledged upmarket standard treats it's customers so badly. Appalling.

The food, service and atmosphere were exceptional. This was our family's first visit to Portugal, and I cannot say how pleased we were by this experience, considering it an absolute highlight or our trip. Everyone of our party of 6 had a different meal, and all raved how good each dish was. The service was friendly and attentive, while the atmosphere was fun and inviting. Thank you Etxea for making our stay extra special!!! Would highly recommend for anyone visiting this area!

Another fantastic evening at Etxea to celebrate a 50th birthday. We were a group of 8 people and all of us thoroughly enjoyed everything we had chosen. The service was the perfect level of friendly & attentive and we all left happy and very satisfied. We highly recommend it!

Best food by far in Carvoeiro very reasonable prices too, friendly staff with good bantor, high standards nice and cosy little spot, very pretty decor 😀 we never told them it was for a birthday, yet they found out and did a birthday candle on our dessert very nice touch.

The restaurant is supposed to be basque cuisine but not a lot of basque options and the decoration is totally not aligned with the menu

What a great dinner experience we had. We were 4 adults staying In Carveiro for vacation. We walked easily to the restaurant where we were greeted with enthusiasm. The cocktails, the ambience the comfortable seating was excellent. Our waiter helped us with our wine choice to complement our food choices. The dinner was one of the best! The staff were attentive and friendly. Most of all they made it a great last night in Carveiro. One to remember !

+2The food was amazing, especially the beef tartare served on china that looks like a bone, the lobster (OMG amazing), the foie gras, and the octopus. I had the tasting menu. Definitely come hungry if you are going for the 7 course menu, because the portions are large for a tasting menu and there is a bread course too! I was impressed that they offered a gluten free option. The service was kind and attentive, without being overbearing or snooty. I had a lovely evening.! Thank you ETXEA!

We had a fantastic meal at Etxea. It is a lovely restaurant in a charming old building with a beautiful and quirky interior. Everything was perfect and we will definitely be back again soon.

Fantastic anniversary meal. Had the vegetarian moments, all dishes were amazing. 100% recommend to vegetarians looking for something different/top quality in Carvoeiro.

Celebrating our 34th anniversary. Staff made us feel so welcome. Helped us to choose a nice wine and nice gin. Enjoyed the oysters, fois gras and a lovely paella. A lovely Gem of a restaurant. So glad we found it.

The quality of the food and wine, the service and atmosphere are very good. The only disappointment was the oysters that I ordered as a starter; they were beautifully presented, but very small and warm instead of chilled. I did point this out at the time and expected that they’d be replaced or I’d be offered an alternative. Otherwise, everything else was very good and I’ll definitely be visiting again.

We were made to feel welcome and service was excellent. Chef came and asked us if we enjoyed our food and was very happy with our answer. The lamb was the best I’ve had so tender and beautiful presentation. Equally the steak was excellent.

Myself and my wife absolutely loved the whole experience of dining at Etxea. Hugo made us feel at ease and was really helpful and had a great sense of humour. We had the Iberian croquettes which were lovely. We both had steak dishes that were beautifully presented and just perfect. The sweets were amazing as well. The only bad thing was the fact that we didn’t eat there until the end of our holiday. Just first class and we will definitely be returning the next time we visit. 👍😁

Quality of food is good. Exept we did’nt understand the baked onions on two dishes. Balance price and quality is good. The courses where a little too quick. We had the 4 courses tasting menu with the wine pairing. The next wine was served when we did’nt had empty glasses grom the course before. It was a little hasty. 4 courses and outside in the hour. Beside of that is was a nice place and good food.

The food was fabulous and the service was great. The manager was exceptional and made great recommendations for our wine selection. This was by far, the best meal we’ve had in Portugal thus far. 10/10

1st time at Etxea. Really great service from engaging staff and food was excellent. The fusion of Portuguese and Spanish cuisine was great, very innovative and very different from the cuisines available elsewhere in the Algarve. My wife thought her duck dish was the best she had tasted anywhere in the world. We also thought the prices were reasonable so excellent value for money. Oh and a great wine list also at reasonable prices. We will definitely be back when next near Carvoeiro.

Great service and wines, food was ok but not impressing.

Absolutely stunning meal, everything was delicious. We had scallops to start, then I had rib eye steak and my husband had beef and prawn skewers. It was excellent steak, cooked beautifully. The staff were fun and attentive.
