The food and wine pairings were absolutely outstanding. I subtracted one star for a couple of courses that took a long time to arrive, and also took off one point for ambience because the little room we were seated in was quite austere. However, don't let either of these small points put you off if you are looking for a great dinning experience. If we return to Lisbon, we will return to Granache.

I found the food a bit hit and miss. A number of the dishes were a bit too intense (acidic or salty) in their flavours, i. e. ‘brash’. Others were underwhelming in their flavour combinations. On the other hand, I usually find the meat dishes of tasting menus the dullest of the meal and Grenache’s wagyu beef was delicious. The service was efficient and friendly, but I did have to grab the water bottle a couple of times myself to refill. The seating was outdoors (summer) in lovely surroundings, but on a through street, which meant if you were seated close to it, you constantly had to witness parades of tourists lumbering past. We had actually moved there from the original table because it was right next to a speaker playing music that was a bit too loud (and clubby) for our taste, although that is the bane of most restaurants these days. They attempt to create atmosphere through music, instead of just letting the quiet din of dining guests set the tone.

The service was absolutely incredible. The front of house team were a magical compliment to one another. The chef and the kitchen staff prepared an absolutely delicious illustration of Portugal and the wine pairings were so perfect that it is difficult to put words to how incredibly satisfying our dining experience truly was. A genuine and absolute heartfelt thank you to the entire team for a truly excellent evening.

We are very satisfied with our 9-course dinner paired with an excellent wine menu. The food was fantastic delicious and well-balanced, the staff incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and service-minded, and the venue very charming. We chose the Grenache menu with the wine pairing (and I had the cheese plate - so good!). All meals were excellent and the wines were well selected to go with the food. The staff was highly professional, answering our questions, speaking 3 languages fluently, it was a very enjoyable moment and I think the 1 star Michelin is really well deserved.

The cuisine and the service are exceptional. A true culinary experience with an explosion of tastes at every bite. We were settled on the terrasse and the cold evening of May, despite the blankets, was the only negative point.

Exquisitely prepared fine food in an elegant understated setting. We had a choice of seating and deliberately picked a table with a view of the kitchen. Very much enjoyed observing the effort to bring the diners a wonderful experience, from the chefs finishing the plating to the wait staff coordinating their effort to bring the dishes to the table in sync. This was our last night of a four week stay in Portugal and Grenache was one of our better dining experiences. Would certainly return if we're back in Portugal and would not hesitate to recommend Grenache to anyone visiting Lisbon.

Spent our last evening in Lisbon here and what a treat. The service was excellent, the passion for the food and wine from everyone was incredible. The open kitchen was a joy to watch, the chefs attention to detail was incredible and the flavours were just perfect. A brilliant way to finish our trip.

The flavours, textures and presentation of the 6 course Grenache taster menu was outstanding. The service was equally fabulous as was the ambience of the restaurant beneath Castelo Sao Jorge. We’ll return when next in Lisbon.
