Our dinner at Kampai Geneva was overshadowed by a disturbing incident. The only bathrooms available to guests are downstairs and a private party was being held there though restaurant guests were still allowed and directed to use the bathrooms. When my husband went downstairs, the manager stopped him, assuming he had come from outside. Though he had served drinks directly to our table. Once he realised my husband was a paying customer, he offered no apology only defensiveness and rudeness. When we mentioned that the incident had been upsetting and suggested a small gesture of goodwill, he said never, refused and walked away. Unfortunately, this mirrors the kind of subtle but daily persistent discrimination that many people of colour encounter in Switzerland. It was disappointing, unprofessional, and unnecessary.

Our staff member’s intention was never to disrespect you, but we acknowledge that the communication could have been clearer. We also wish to point out that no mention of a racist incident was made to us at the time. Instead, we received a request for an immediate discount, accompanied by the explicit threat of a negative review, without explanation. This placed us in a difficult position and made it impossible to respond favorably. We regret that this misunderstanding led to such a perception. The Lomo Saltado was not the classic but an adapted version. The meat was wonderful, yet the sauce did not quite taste as the original recipe.

The flavours and quality of the food when we visited Kampai last time was much better. There were more options also. We expected the same level of quality and flavours, but was not completely satisfied. Particularly, the pork Bao was very mediocre.

This was a great find on our night out in Geneva the submarine bar in the basement knocked up some excellent cocktails and a cheeky bowl of nachos too! The restaurant rightly deserves the rating from the Gaut Millau guide as a place to eat great food - as it says a mix of Peruvian and Japanese just works well! The uzumakis the octopus and the lomo saltado stood out across a great overall menu too…. We will be back!
