Traditional place for paellas. Good service at a very touristy spot, that gets a bit noisy

This is the one place anyone that comes to visit Madrid needs to go. This time I brought family and friends and it is the one I bring anyone when they come to visit me. This is the best paella, fideua, croquetas, gambas al ajillo… best service, kind and so happy every time we come. We’ll keep coming back!

Been going for a few years to La Barraca now. Food is always of good quality, service has gone down since the inception of Asian ladies as waitresses, they seem to be always bitter and in a bad mood.

I like this restaurant because the food is super good and the place as well. However, now they rose their prices and it is too expensive in my opinion so I wont come back except for a big occasion.

Sadly has perhaps become a tourist trap or perhaps the demand has exceeded the capacity to deliver quality paella. Paella lacking socarrat, gritty uncleaned prawns and cold staff. Food was ready quickly and lovely authentic setting

Overall was fine … I was expecting better quality rice … I think it is ok… just lower than my expectations as rice specialty

Famous restaurant for paella. Excellent service, reasonable prices. The sophisticated hall was very hot and stuffy, making us uncomfortable throughout the meal. The food was too salty. This was our second visit after more than five years. We had a much better experience the first time.

La Barraca is one of my favorite restaurants in Madrid, especially when it comes to Paella dishes, but I haven't been back in over 10 years, so I decided to see if it was still at the top of my list. I ordered the Paella Marinera, which is one of their seafood Paellas. La Barraca is known for their Paella and rice dishes, so make sure you try one of those offerings. They used to specialize in short grain rice Paella, but mine came with a mixture of short and long grain rices. Still very good, but I feel like the short grain only rice was a little better quality overall. The seafood was of good quality and very tasty. Only one prawn was overcooked, but all other seafood was perfectly cooked, and the rice was al dente. They have a "new" rule where you can only order one Paella for a party of two, so the price they show is per person. I'm not sure when this rule came to be, but it may not be new. If you happen to be eating by yourself (as I was this night), you'll have way too much Paella with the minimum order. Basically, you're paying double the price of what you would in the past if you're alone. Their Paella used to be personal sized for one, so that was a let-down. The Rioja wine was perfectly paired with my meal, and the bread, garlic dip, and black olives were amazing. Even though I feel the food is more expensive at a slightly lower quality than what I've experienced in the past, I still feel the service and quality meet or exceed any Paella you can get in Madrid (minus my Mother-in-law's). Highly recommend.

Excellent PAELLA. Staff very professional and polite. We were seated immediately and enjoyed every moment of the evening. Would recommend to anyone looking to eat a great paella while in Madrid.

Very good paella! The best we had in our trips to Spain! Highly recommend this place for authentic Valencia paella!

Pretty uninspiring food, good service, nondescript decor and ambiance. Mushroom and shrimp appetizer was pretty bad, few overcooked and mushy shrimp, seemed reheated in a microwave. . Tomatoes for tomato and ventresca salad were green. Paellas were ok, no where near the level the reviews would suggest. Good staff, kitchen needs some help.

Really delic food, authentic Spanish paella. Very nice atmosphere. Service could be better, but most likely because our waitress was not good at English since she did not answer our questions…

Do not get me wrong, the paella was good but not the best. The better ones we had eaten are in Barcelona - restaurant Salamanca and in Santander - in a restaurant called La Mulata . A must try !!!
