I really hesitate to leave a review when it isn't positive because I don't like to harm a small business. I am hoping that the restaurant reads this and is helped by the comments. When I walked in I was struck by the immensity of the restaurant and that there were only a few customers magnifying the size of the space and lack of clientele. The style was outdated but could be much improved by adding a few modern touches. I would fill the enormous entry with small tables for two and close off the other rooms until the restaurant fills up. We were greeted by what seemed like a new employee who didn't smile. I am not sure whether she was focusing on her job and forgot, but her lack of enthusiasm set the tone. Another more friendly woman appeared who had the right attitude. She showed us our table. The prices were high, but I already knew that as I had read the menu and reviews before coming. The Peking Duck seemed to be the dish the reviewers were raving about. We ordered that. First came the Nem. It was the usual Nem you get everywhere, except mine had a long hair in it. I thought it might be mine, so I didn't think anything about it. They brought out the cooked red duck, presented it to us and then took it away. They cut off the skin and served that with tortillas and fresh vegetables and a tangy sauce. That was good. I found another long hair and then decided that someone in the kitchen needed a hair net. I was kind of disgusted but decided that it wasn't going to ruin my night. The next dish was the duck cut into pieces served with a side of noodles mixed with veggies and egg. I didn't like the taste of the duck meat, it tasted strange. I avoided eating that. The noodle dish, however, was excellent. I would have been happy with just that. Lastly they brought the duck soup. That was awful. It was a broth with the same bad tasting duck meat and minimal veggies. It was an odd thing to finish the meal with. I would have preferred the soup first, but not that soup. For dessert I ordered the banana caramelized doughnut thing. It was greasy and slimy. I couldn't eat it. My friend who is French thought the food was okay. He wasn't amazed. I was disappointed as this restaurant was rated high on the Fork. I am starting to lose my faith in this app as I have had similar experiences with high ratings that are suspicious. I wouldn't have minded the high price if the food was better. I think the problem is that the chef is stuck in a time warp. He needs to find his passion or step aside for someone else who has a fire burning within.
