3/10When you arrive, the welcome is positive. The menu is a bit limited, but that could be because they focus on a few good-quality dishes. The reality is that the kitchen lacks technique and the ingredients are poor. The service is barely above decent, not up to par for an average clientele.

What a fabulous little restaurant this is. The food is outstanding, there must be a reason they haven’t got a Michelin Star but I couldn’t think of it. The only restaurants I have eaten at that compare are 2&3 Michelin starred. The service was friendly and unpretentious and the restaurant itself was just outside the tourist tat area. So if you want to eat outstanding food in a lovely friendly restaurant away from the tourist crush - look no further.

10/10There is a lot of passion in the food and service here. The food was excellent, the different dishes were well prepared both from a taste perspective as well as for the eye. We were able to match a nice wine to our food. Enjoyed the service which was friendly but also left you to enjoy the evening.

10/10Very nice typical French restaurant used mostly by the French rather than tourists as is a couple of minutes walk up a back street from the tourist area. The lunchtime menu is very good value although there is no choice. Dishes on la carte are more expensive.

10/10A wonderful family run restaurant. A modest menu with excellent variety meant that everything was prepared, cooked and served at a very high standard. With superb fresh ingredients the food was excellent A good choice of red and white wines , all served by bottle or glass you can’t go wrong at this establishment.

10/10A restaurant off rue Vauban serving typical French food rather than Alsatian cuisine. The menu of the day served lunch time during the week,with entrée, main course & dessert is very good value at 17€. There is no choice and the menu changes daily.

9.5/10My wife and I were the first to arrive at 7pm last evening and by the time we departed the restaurant was full on a Monday evening. We each got a main dish only. My filet was cooked perfectly and the sauce complemented it nicely. My wife got the cod dish and raved about it. My Alsatian Chardonnay was fabulous.

10/10We love to find small, personal restaurants where the staff are truly engaged... and Les Racines is one of them. Although their command of English was lacking, our command of French was worse :( ...But, no matter, we successfully enjoyed both the food and the interaction. My wife had a wonderful serving of shrimp, and I ordered the special of the night... Faux-filet, which, sadly, was the only disappointment of the whole evening. (The piece of meat was tough to chew). In their defense, I must say I've never really enjoyed any cut of beef, unless it is true Filet. They were careful to cook it exactly as I asked (À point)... but that did not help the poor cut of meat. But please do not misunderstand; the restaurant had so many other wonderful features, that I just feel compelled to overlook the meat for this review.. For example, we were served a tasty amuse bouche, delightful salads, an amazing classic gazpacho, large fresh shrimp with artichokes, and, for dessert we shared a raspberry sorbet of concentrated flavor, with a touch of matching liquor. Would we return?... absolutely ! In fact, the nicest touch of the evening occurred at the very end... We had paid our bill, the restaurant was 'winding down' (only 3 or 4 tables left dining), and the owner was standing outside speaking to some customers he apparently knew well. He abruptly stopped his conversation, turned around, spoke clearly to us, and thanked us both for coming, and shook our hand with sincerity. It may seem trivial, but in today's fast moving world, I found that to be a very special moment.

9.5/10We were on holiday in Colmar and had an excellent meal here for 3 adults and 2 teenagers. Great atmosphere and although the hosts didn't speak English, they were very friendly and welcoming. If in Colmar again, we would definitely go again.
