    Food was outstanding! The owner was super nice and friendly explaining our dishes in detail as well as recommending wines to pair with our dishes. He was very engaging and telling us the story of the restaurant as well as its design!

    High quality ingredients and remarkable flavor in every dish. We had a cozy, friendly, excellent experience during a Christmas Eve dinner. Highly recommended for authentic Italian cuisine, not hype.

    The food was ok but definitely overpriced. The owner was sick and coughing and we both ended up catching his cold. Maybe an off day, but he should not have opened.

    Service was welcoming and attentive. The menu offered a wonderful representation of Sicilian cuisine, both delicious and beautifully plated. We will certainly return on our next visit.

    It is well worth returning to. Not just that, it can, and should be, a reason to visit Ortigia. At some places you get food for your bellies, but here you also get food for your soul. A marvellous experience

    We actually ate here twice. First night was really good. Portions small so better get a couple of courses. We actually went back for a second night. I had the stuff squid. Sorry - but it came out cold and portion was really small. Sat outside second night - decent people watching but had to listen to scooters, motorcycles, and electric scooters. Fancy presentations and owner/manager certainly a dynamic character. Wish second meal was better. Restaurant was 400 meters from our hotel. In hindsight - wish meal second night was better or we tried something different. This place was not cheap - with 10% tip dinner for two first night was $165 and second night was $176. That was what we were paying on the Amalfi Coast in Positano with beautiful views of Bay and Marina.

    Good, creative and high-quality food. Service was terrible. The chef was moving tables to accommodate extra guests during service, food took too long, the only server on shift kept forgetting things (brought the bread, forgot the oil, could not take orders unless the chef took them).

    Maurizio gave us an experience for our first night in Ortigia! Unforgettable food and personal experience. The raw seafood platter with fresh herbs was wonderful. Tuna, Veal, Seabass and Swordfish were delicious. The meal ended with 2 desserts of the day. This is a can’t miss restaurant when you visit - highly recommend.

    The service was very good. Meals are really tasty, but quantities are small. We would appreciate a little bit more of vegetables.

    The Chef showed tremendous care, creativity and pride in the restaurant and dishes that they served. He was very hands-on and created a culinary show for us as he finished our dishes tsbleside! We were a group of 6 and this was our last meal in Ortigia before flying home to the States. We wish we had more opportunities to eat here, but will return on our next trip back to Sicily!

    The risotto rice was hard and the taste is fishy. The chicken is tender but burned in the margin from the grill. The fish had no taste as all. Disappointing. The starter which is the cheese with cauliflower (instead of the broccoli) is very good.

    What a meal!!! Chef Maurizio takes such wonderful care of his guests. He is a culinary maestro who offers advice on how best to balance the various elements of the meal. The interaction between chef and diner is unique. Great food, great ambiance, and great service (thank you Danielle). I’ve been to many fine restaurants all over the world and have never had a meal quite like the one I had last night at Macalle!

    What a special evening. Dinner was absolutely delicious and served with care and attention. Fresh herbs snipped at the table. The pistachio desert was the best we've had Sicily--and that's saying alot.

    We had a really nice time at Macallé Sicilian. The food was delicious—every dish was flavourful, and beautifully presented. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with just the right mix of warmth and elegance, and the music contribute to it. Highly recommend giving this spot a try!

    "The chef's philosophy is to transform grandmother's recipes into modern dishes" which we were very excited about. But "transforming" in this case was mostly separating ingredients into neat geometric shapes at the cost of harmony or soul. To claim that they're special because they use seasonal and fresh ingredients is false marketing because most restaurants we've dined at abide by this philosophy w/out much fanfare. I think we reacted badly to this place because the price says fine dining but the experience says otherwise. We expected a level of refinement we did not receive from the food, the wine service, and tipping practices.

    Mauricio’s attention to our enjoyment of the meal was excellent! The food was flavorful and fresh from start to finish. We also appreciate the competence and kindness of all the staff members. We were treated very well as guests, despite our terrible Italian accent 😆We highly recommend this restaurant! 🤩

    It was a disappointing experience. The food is very good, though about 25% overpriced by both Sicilian and northern Italy standards of comparable restaurants. The owner was effusive and friendly to customers but very stressed. The pasta came very quickly before wine and bread. Ten minutes later the wrong wine arrived and the pasta reheated. Mini-dramas went on around us, a table moved and something smashing, wrong plates to wrong table, orders being loudly and quite rudely made to staff. Our bill arrived without the fork discount and with a higher price for the wine, but sorted out ok by owner. It was pretty shambolic, not relaxing, and I’m afraid we would not return.

    Two weeks of great restaurant experiences in Sicily; unfortunately Macalle was disappointing. We sat outside - near one other American couple and waited over 30 minutes to get anything more than a glass of water. Felt quite unwelcome - as if we were inconveniencing the staff. I'd made the reservation over a month in advance. It was a Saturday evening and the restaurant was busy but not overwhelmed. As an American tourist I'd suggest a different restaurant in Taormina.

    The Chef is the immediate centre of attention as he greets you expansively on entering. That is part of his character & continued when each dish was presented and he gave them the blow torch treatment. It reminded us of some restaurants in the 1970s in the UK and France when the head waiter cooked your 'Steak DIane' at the table finishing it off by flaming off the alcohol. Then a small table with growing herbs was brought over. With panache he snipped off, various fresh growing herbs to add to the dish. Overall he put a smile on our faces. The two servers were good. We had a lovely salad Ortigia which also contained some tasty seasonal fruit. The octopus and beef Tagliata received the torch and we both loved them. The red wine is kept, properly, in a wine fridge at 18 degrees. We drank a bottle at 30E which we enjoyed. That is about the starting price point for the wine. We enjoyed our meal. The menu price of our meal with salad, octopus starters & two tagliata & drinks was 166E.
