This is one of the BEST restaurants in Caldas, and we have visited it multiple times. It never lets us down. The food is delicious and always beautifully presented. They serve international food with a flair - highly recommended!

The food was really good. Very different and it was a pleasant surprise to find these dishes. The ambiance was also very good. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a new experience to share with friends and family.

Tasty sandwiches but we had to ask for new fries because they served us cold ones. That’s always ambit disappointing. Good draft beer. Good for casual dinner.

The food is very good, innovative and creative. Also what’s unusual for many of the dishes are the substitutes for vegetarian or fish in certain main courses. The dishes were beautifully plated. The staff are attentive and warm which made for a nice night out.

+1The place is not that big, and that makes the ambient even better. Decoration is very modern and in line with the other restaurant of the group, Taberna Marginal (also excellent by the way). We were welcomed by the waitress, who was very friendly, and we were conducted to our table. We reviewed the menu, which is not that large - for us that is a good thing - and quickly chose the entree and main dish. We took the Oh prawn Show and the Coxinha one, both excellent. Personally, I thought that the coxinha was a little bit too oily, but it was deep fried, so I suppose that is inevitable. The Ohprawn one was fantastic. It was a bolo de caco (typical bread of Madeira) with butter, prawns, and a coleslaw on top. Great starter, the bar was high for the main. The dish was very fresh and light, and large as well. For main dish I had a shark curry and cabbage, and my wife had a risotto with prawns. Both dishes were beautifully presented, were generous portions. The dishes were executed perfectly and had this characteristic that I personally value on the dishes, which is all the ingredients are OK, but when put together on a mouthful it is a whole new thing, the balance of flavors was great, and it shows that the dish was thought, carefully conceived. We were both happy. Finally, we were not hungry anymore, but we could not leave the place, after such an amazing experience, without tasting one of the three desserts (also knowing the Taberna Marginal's offer of desserts, we knew even before entering the place that we had to have some dessert).. They did not disappoint. We had the tropicaliente one, which was served on a large cold stone. Coconut ice-cream, with passion fruit mousse or ice-cream, I could not tell, it had some fruit gel or jam, and it was covered with black sesame dirt. It was so amazing visually when presented, really, we felt like in Australia's MasterChef finale (the cabbage and shark curry also was MasterChef Australia level). In sum, wonderful experience, amazing place to get a highly creative and perfectly executed dishes and presented as a top restaurant. It is not cheap, but it should not be cheap for what they offer, the price/quality ratio is very consumer friendly. We will come back when we visit Caldas da Rainha again.

Friendly and helpful staff, quick service, good fusion food at reasonable prices. Atmosphere and setting very nice. Will definitely recommend the Maratona.

We always come to Maratona when we Re in Portugal as the food and atmosphere are amazing. This time we enjoyed the great new dishes on the menu.

Very stylish restaurant and something of a treat to have a choice of interesting vegetarian options. However, the food was a bit disappointing. Both our starters (fried cheese sticks and octopus) were rather bland, and my tomato mayonnaise tasted like the dressing they used to put on prawn cocktails. Our mains were better but my squash was drowned in mustard sauce and the sweet potato crisps lacked interest. My partner’s pork came smothered in parsnip strips, which were excellent (our favourite part of the meal and my partner doesn’t even really like parsnips), but made it difficult to access the meat underneath until he’d eaten quite a lot of them. We had a good bottle of Portuguese wine, which was great value. It’s great to see an adventurous menu, but sadly the end results didn’t wuite match up to our expectations.

We came here for the 5th time.. and this time we where surprised that the quality of the food was less than before. The disches where served different and where not as good as before :(. Maybe a bad day for the cook? Offcourse we will return again :-)

As usual an excellent evening. Food fabulous and service excellent. Atmosphere great as it always is. This is one of our favourite restaurants in Caldas.
