I think, it is not easy to surprise Portuguese people with Portuguese cuisine but my boyfriend who was born in Portugal, was surprised and happy with his choice - Polvo da Maria. My other friends and me were also happy with our dishes 😄 Delicious food, interesting and very cozy interior, good choice of wines 😄👍

+4Maria was absolutely delightful and very patient with us while explaining the menu. She provided excellent and tasty choices. We loved the shrimp especially!

Venue, ambiance and service really nice. The starter - a salmon ceviche- was very good! Unfortunately the main dishes - that looked and smelled delicious- were somehow disappointing: the codfish with corn bread, was tasteless as the codfish was lacking salt and its texture was gummy, even if the side greens and the potatoes were good; my partner had the lagareiro codfish that had too many fish bones and made each bite challenging to appreciate, even if it was tasty and well cooked. We may have been just unlucky with the choices. We may repeat the Restaurant, not the main course options.

When they tell you the price of the “house starter” (which they put on the tape for you to decide if you want it), they should tell you that includes €4.50 for two tiny containers of butter. I expected to pay for the octopus, the olives and the bread - but I was surprised about the butter. Maybe only tourists get this?

Great surprise, excellent seafood, the speciality is risotto

It’s a tad weird that a restaurant whose main Ingredient is fish does not have proper cutlery. It was also a bit noisy because it had too many cramped tables. Otherwise, the food had a good price for the quality.

very nice atmosphere, good food, kind staff

Food was terrible, either salty or tasteless. We had the tuna tartare, which was bland with a salty sauce. For mains, we had the signature cod (unseasoned, dry, needed lemon) and the sea bass risotto (too lemony sauce, either overcooked or expired and bitter asparagus). We had a reservation, but our table was placed in the corridor and we had servers elbowing us the whole night. Service was inconsistent and cold.

Such a great evening. Excellent personalised service, great atmosphere and good food. Thanks to the great staff and a special OBRIGADO to Raquel, the manager.

I was very disappointed with the John Dory - 3 pieces of deep fried fish, the coating was over cooked and the fish was not fully cooked. The risotto that came with it was bland and oily.

The welcome to the place, the knowledge of the waiters and quality of the food was superb

The service changed completely our experience for worst. We felt pressure to order as soon as possible (waiter coming up every 5 minutes). The same pattern in the end, approaching every 5 minutes to pick up the plates, despite our consistent reply "no". In the end, he was rushing so much to clean the table that broke a glass and a plate (luckily no harm on the people siting in front of it). Another waiter came to help. Again, while rushing to pick up the table, they broke another glass on the table. It is such a pity, cause we like the food and the menu, but this was heavily disappointing!

we had a goat cheese for sharing which was nicely done. The John Dory with clam risotto and the cod lagareiro as main dish were both disappointing. The risotto was way too soft like baby food while the clam meat was tough. overall taste was too plain. the cod was also very plain and somewhat tasteless. The portion of both dishes was huge and one can imagin it is difficult to consume the whole plate when you do not enjoy the dish.

We had been already last year to "Maria Peixeira" and we came again to the same opinion: really tasty and great! We should have such a good restaurant in Stuttgart!

Very good fresh fish. The Filetes are aweosome. The staff is friendly, helpful and fast. The place is cozy and familiar.

We started with the octopus salad. The octopus was tough and chewy and the dressing was uninspired - a little citrus would have added some dimensionality to the dish. I had the scallop and clam risotto. The scallops and clams were over cooked and the risotto had an odd flavor which neither my wife nor I could identify - we didn't finish it. My wife had the sea bass which was also over cooked but the asparagus risoto was good.

Perfect for fish lovers :)

We had a very nice dinner. We have eaten here several times and when in Lisbon, we make it a point to try to eat dinner here one night. The menu was updated, and while we enjoyed the prior menu, we felt this was an improvement. So, good service, a nice menu, and overall a very nice evening. We will return.

Great restaurant with great food, friendly staff, and nice atmosphere. Great value, too. Above all our waiter Marco, was patient, pleasant and helpful. He is multilingual and quite an asset for a restaurant catering to a a good number of tourists not versed in Portuguese.

Great food and staff! I was there twice in one month with colleagues and everything was good! Would definitely recommend the goat cheese with cranberry sauce (everything is good in fact!).

The warm welcome and goodbye were so heartwarming. The food was excellent, beautifully plated and so mouthwatering. This restaurant definitely deserves the five star rating! Don’t miss this when in Lisbon!!
