6.5/10We came here for a New Year's eve dinner and it was chaos. We waited for 45 minutes, and when no one had come my husband tracked down someone to take our drink's order. We then waited for another long period, and had to flag someone down for menus, and then again to have our order taken. The staff was polite and friendly, but totally flustered. Our main courses arrived while we still had our starter plates sitting in front of us. I imagine this was an unusual evening, maybe they were understaffed. The food was very good although my starter arrived cold, again, probably due to understaffing. I wouldn't have minded all this and we just watched the chaos with bemusement, however, to pay 167 euros for this (we only had 1 beer and 2 glasses of wine, no dessert) made us feeling unimpressed.

8.5/10Wonderful restaurant with a nice relaxed vibe but they didn't slouch on the food. Incredibly delicious, some of the best we had in our whole Italy trip. The anchovies, octopus, prawns and oysters were all excellent. The chef's welcome was also one of the highlights. Thank you!

Modern style seafood restaurant I really like! Every dish is so tasty and well presented. Clearly can feel the ingredients are very fresh. Super friendly and kind staff also made the experience perfect. I really recomment this place which won’t disappoint anyone.

Dear customer, I’m really sorry for your bad experience in our restaurant. The night of 25th of december was very hard because the 50% of the staff was at home sick with Fever. If you remember we were only two waiters and the restaurant was full and that’s the reason why the service was slow. Sorry again! Regards Stefano

Excellent restaurant, superb and fast service and food. Seafood oriented, meals are degustation sized, so don’t skip courses;-) a bit more expensive but well worth the money.

9/10Lovely food with very friendly staff. Excellent raw seafood prepared with great care and precision. However, service was very slow getting started (around 30 minutes with just water at the table) and settling the bill (around 20 minutes). A leisurely 2.5 hour meal. Perhaps a little too slow for us.

4.5/10A very pretencious place that turns out to be a tourist trap. Alternates great and mediocre dishes, but consistently overpriced. Staff vanishes and doesn’t provide the level of excellence for the restaurant deliver be what it pretends to deliver: a fine dining experience.

Dear Sir, thx for your review. I'm sorry for your bad experience in our restaurant. We are not a fine dining restaurant, we don't like the Michelin star service. We are a well known seafood restaurant of Rome, with a friendly atmosphere and an high quality of food. Pheraps you were looking for a different situation, I'm sorry for that, but, please, tourist traps are different restaurants.... Hope to see you again Stefano

+5Great place close to our hotel. We had 3 lunches here and every dish we tried was excellent! Friendly staff and so nice! There is so much love into the food. We were so happy to find this place during our time in Rome! Please check it out when you’re in the city! You won’t be disappointed.

8.5/10My first experience with Matermatuta was several years ago when I was visiting Rome and the restaurant was newly renovated and was offering superb general Italian cuisine. Now, they're specialized in seafood and changed the concept and the location. The outside terrace was nice and the food was good. Prices are on the high side, yet if you are looking for fine dining this is the place to be.

10/10This restaurant is on my must do list when I visit Rome. The taste of the dishes is interesting, the portions are not large (as usual in restaurants of this type), but it's even better to enjoy the taste of food here. In the warm season it is very pleasant to sit on the terrace. The waiters are polite and unobtrusive. Only positive impressions from this wonderful place!
