We were greeted with a smile. It was our first night in Tuscany and we had booked our table in advance. The menu provided ample choices and we were shown to a table that looked out onto the hills. The food was absolutely exceptional and we enjoyed our great evening so much we booked to return again. The quality of those dishes was amazing and the service was friendly and always with a smile. This place may be out of town, but it is well worth a visit.

Fantastic staff, very engaging and knowledgeable. Beautiful setting. Ordering your food is a fun and easy conversation, it doesn't have to involve staring at the pages of a menu.

The decor, the staff, and the entire dinner presentation were outstanding. It's a place to take your time unwinding from your day and enjoy a beautiful meal. It is apparent the love that they put into their dishes.

This place is the ultimate of Italian home cooking! Delightful setting, delicious food and easy to find. A must while in the San Gimignano area!

I dined at osteria del castagno with a friend. Or maybe I should say “fine dined” because on the inside of this charming but unassuming osteria on the side of a road we had traveled dozens of times on our way to San Gimignano, awaited a true dining experience. From the warm and welcoming country decor with modern touches...to the delicious dishes with fresh ingredients created with skill and care...to the attentive, top-notch service...this restaurant has it all. The highlights of our meal were the appetizer of pata negra prosciutto aged 12 and 22 months, and for the first course, a creative take on carbonara with fresh homemade ravioli. To follow, my friend ordered the deer filet, which was not only exquisitely tender, but perfectly paired with a bell pepper cream sauce. The server explained the process of slow cooking the meat and choosing subtle pairings that bring out the flavor of the meat. At the end of our meal, we had a conversation with the owner, who was running the cash register. His love for food and attention to quality were striking. One thing in particular stuck out to me: “If one of my suppliers brings any produce that is not the freshest and best quality, even one time, that supplier will never set cross my doorstep again,” he said. I highly recommend this dining experience!

Very nice dinner in a charming place. Delicate and tasty dishes, warm welcome and smooth atmosphere. Further, a very good selection of wines, including outstanding local ones, within the list. A nice place to go.
