Food and atmosphere here were restaurant highlights of our trip. All dishes were excellent and the ricotta/marmalade tart/pie phenomenal. While they greeted some returning clients with warmth, I found the service very curt and unwelcoming but—again—the food delicious.

Unfortunate experience. Booked online and received confirmation. Arrived to be met by very grumpy owner (?) who hadn’t got my name on his list and constantly repeated in Italian that the internet didn’t work? I was still smiling at this point so asked if there was a table for us. There was a table of 6 seated and eating but all other tables were free. He begrudgingly offered us a small table right by the kitchen and practically threw the menus at us. As there were several other free tables for 2 we asked if we might have an alternative- not possible said “mine host”- so we left. Cannot review food as we didn’t have any !
Osteria del PegnoI read your review carefully. I'll start by saying that in central Rome, internet connections aren't very modern, and there are often problems with reception. So, as in your case, your reservation didn't reach us as you say. We tried to find you a table right away, but the only one we had was in front of the oven, not the kitchen. So, your first inaccuracy. On the website, we show table availability, but we don't give you a choice of tables. So, given that, we acted correctly. The other tables you saw free were all reserved by customers who actually came before you, so your second inaccuracy about what happened. I've never had a rude attitude toward you, and the fact that I found you a table proves it. Your third inaccuracy is that you were never given menus, as you claim. Your fourth inaccuracy. So, Madam, I assume your review is either fake or you've chosen the wrong restaurant. I hereby send you a big hug and, God willing, a BEST WISH.

Our favorite dinner in Rome was at Osteria del Pegno—the food was delicious, the service impeccable. It will be a sweet memory forever.

Had a lovely meal, service was great, the food was outstanding and they have a lovely wine list. We don’t live in Rome, but we will go there again when we next go to Rome. All very good value too.

Loved the cozy, charming ambiance and the simply, traditionally, but flawlessly prepared food (particularly the perfectly executed and delicious carbonara), but what really differentiated the experience for us, and brought us back for 2 of our 6 dinners in Rome, was the warm and gracious service. This was a refreshing spot in a sea of tourist-oriented restaurants - clearly a spot frequented locals. We loved it - thank you Osteria del Pegno!

Overall the food was very good. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana - it was delicious but cold in the middle. The rest of the meal was very good. Service was very good. Not a lot of wine options to chose from though.

However, dear madam, regarding the wines... not much choice? We have over 300 references!!!!! Perhaps you didn't read the menu!!!! Yes very quaint place ! The waiter suggested a wine reasonably priced ly favorite wine in rome! The food as always is delicious

It was charming and old school. No frills restaurant with delicious food. It wasn't a scene, like so many other restaurants in Rome. The food delicious, the servers kind and the space absolutely perfect.

Our favorite meal in Italy so far. They do a great job with the veal and tiramisu. Service was fantastic. We loved the quiet alley table in busy Roma.

We have been here many times before. The pesto with carmelized tomatoes looked good, but was way too sweet. I know things get sweet when you carmelize them, but this was almost like they added sugar. We could not finish it.

Hidden gem. Not the most scenic exterior HOWEVER excellent food and service. Great value quality food. Highly recommend the homemade pasta.

The service was amazing. The food was good, but higher priced relative to similar food outside the centro storico.

Unfortunately, in the historic center, there are many businesses that don't use high-quality products... Everyone can do what they want. I've been trying to offer quality for thirty years, and I can assure you that quality comes at a slightly higher cost, and there's always a reason why our customers have been coming to us for thirty years. If you're looking for something cheaper, the center is full of touristy places... I always try not to offer something touristy, but something real. This is always been one of my favorite places in Rome. The atmosphere is intimate and charming romantic,and authentic. The menus well designed the ingredients are freshest. The pasta is homemade and the menu is creative at the same time that is traditional. Youcan’t miss.

Good environment in a small valley. Historical decoration. Good quality of traditional local food. The free bread is good and diverse. A little bit expencive but worth it. 10% service fee is included.

+1This was a lovely dining experience. Massimo took care of everyone and made wonderful suggestions. It’s not everyday when in Italy you go into a restaurant and see the pride that is put into making you feel you are the one that matters! The ambience was beautiful, fresh flowers, linen cloths, low lighting. It was a very romantic setting. Of course not to mention the food was delightful. I wish I would have found this place first, as I would have eaten here again. I will return!

This is the second time we have dined here. It was so good two years ago that we came back with extended family. It did not disappoint and our family memory agreed that it was our favorite dining experience of our 10 day trip. Thank you and we can’t wait to visit again someday soon!

Firstly the food is fantastic, the atmosphere is cosy and relaxed which after a long day in the city is worlds apart. The staff were very attentive to all customers, many language (French and English) barriers but treated with the same care. Topped off with more than fair pricing to round off the experience. Arrivederci.
