First visit to this establishment with my parents on 27/03/26 We were warmly welcomed by Alex who was such an professional server. Such a great guy! My parents and I started off with drinks, my father had Super Bock, my mother and I had a glass of red wine. For Starters, my father and I opted for Fish Soup, let me tell you this fish soup was remarkable, so flavorful and nice chunks of fish in the rich broth, my mother had the clams in a garlic white wine sauce, she said they were the best clams she's had in a long time. For our main course, my father had the Octopus Fettuccine, he raved how excellent his dish was, my mother has the Octopus Curry, she absolutely said it was a very flavorful curry, and I had the Octopus Tempura, Outstanding, expertly fried and the potato mash was creamy and rich, the sweet chili sauce was perfect for dipping. As a Culinarian/Foodie This Establishment is Spectacular! I Highly Recommend Polvaria Joao Belhi! Tell them Charlie sent ya! A Return is a Must!

Starter and tuna main were fine but I was served chocolate mousse that clearly had mouldy spots on the top of it. It was changed for another but it wasn't even really mousse, just chocolate liquid. My husband had the cheesecake which had strange lumps in it. The otherwise quite good meal was ruined by the desserts. So, yes, go for the fish but skip the pud!

Been coming here for many years even before the change of ownership and it’s always been what one would describe as typical Portugese now though there is an increased emphasis on octopus but not withstanding there is a full a la carte menu of fish and meat plus numerous starters most of which are seafood. Our two meals were Polvo algarvia and salmon. Excelent portions well cooked and very flavourful. A good house wine at 14 € and 30% off food via the fork. What more could you ask for. Good riverside location attentive staff and always well worth a visit.

we were told that there was no seabass, seabream, sardines when we were given the menu. We live in Tavira and always have the seabream so were very disappointed. We then ordered the Chaiado rose wine, not available, then another rose, not available, the chaiado white also not available. What we did order food and drink wise was ok but not what we wanted.

We had been let down by another restaurant last minute and had noticed PJB on Fork. We arrived 10 minutes later and were welcomed warmly. The octopus was wonderful in a salad starter and a spectacular fettuccine. The wine was excellent. The two guys running the place were fantastic and efficient and friendly. A real find.

They’re not prepared for the summer, Two servers to take care of the busy nights. 20 minutes to get beer, appetizer came together with one main course and we had to wait 15 minutes for the second one!

Fantastic food with excellent service would absolutely recommend the polo frito algarvia it was succulent and in a lovely white wine sauce with onion and garlic served with rice. Very tasty

Restaurant specialty is octopus and is served about 10 different ways. We had the covert, one had tempura octopus and the other Lagerio octopus, both delicious and served with creamy mashed potato. Wine prices are very reasonable.

Just a lovely experience all round. The service was excellent; attentive but not intrusive. The food was amazing; they really know how to do fish beautifully. We had a local Algarve pudding (Mixto do Algarve) which was utterly delicious. I would cheerfully go there again, and again, and again ...

The only problem we had was that it was very cold in the restaurant. They had both doors open and when we mentioned how cold it was they closed one of the doors. That aside the food was delicious and will certainly go again.

The restaurant specialises in seafood so its offer may be too limited for dedicated meat eaters. This was our second visit in a few months. This time we both had fettuccine with octopus, prawns and clams which my wife had enjoyed the first time. On this occasion, she thought that the octopus was a little chewier - i enjoyed the slight bite which, I thought, improved the texture of the dish. I have marked down the ambience slightly because, as on our previous visit, there were few other diners. We will probably return.
