10/10An evening at Johannes is always a treat in all facets. Great service, delicious food, amazing ambiance and a cozy view of the canals. A hidden gem right in the centre of Amsterdam.

10/10+1Fantastic restaurant. We had the chefs 6 course surprise menu. It was really good. So many flavours and presented incredibly on the plates.The Waiter knew his stuff and was so professional and friendly at the same time.

9/10We had the five-course tasting menu with wine pairing. We were surprised to find the restaurant empty. However, we were warmly welcomed. The pre-dinner appetizers were delicious, and all the courses were surprisingly tasty—except for the finale. Unfortunately, we found the cheese and dessert to be ordinary, uninventive, and not on the same level as the rest of the meal. A pity, because we loved the restaurant.

6/10Very nice atmosphere and very attentive staff, comfortable seating and well decorated. The food was a bit flat and the ingredients were not mixed in a way that would surprise your senses, the dishes were only “ good” not up to the standard you would expect with such a nice presentation. But the worst of all, and the main reason why I give this punctuation, the dinner lasted for more than 3 hours. My blood circulation was begging me to stand up and move, I felt like kidnapped in my seat. We had time to begin to digest the food between dishes. I had the impression that because they have both a la carte and different tasting menus the kitchen was not able to prepare fast enough what they were offering. They have lots of potential but I think they could do much better if they’d stick to either a la carte or one or two tasting menu, Service was very nice, very professional and fast, they were doing very well. Thank you for that.

10/10Memorable Birthday dinner couldn’t fault it. A lovely meal started with Normandy oysters with champagne followed by a chefs choice 5 course taster menu. The place was tasteful with a pleasant ambience. A courses were excellent and the wine pairing worked well. The serving staff were engaging and made our evening . Highly recommended and didn’t break the bank. Thank you.

5.5/10I asked for tap water, and was given still water and charged €6 for it. It’s ok that they don’t give out tap water, but to just provide still water instead and charge without telling you is wrong. Avoid this restaurant as who knows what other scams they could pull on their customers.

10/10Any expectations from reading previous rave reviews were absolutely exceeded :) The staff was very earnest in wanting to provide a 5 star memorable experience to ourselves and to other diner interactions I observed. Due to a busy Saturday night the kitchen staff was utilized to assist wait staff in keeping the service timely… which it absolutely was… including delightful complimentary amuse bouche & intermezzo courses. The execution of the menu here lives up to the restaurant’s mission statement entirely. At times these are lofty ideals that are never realized. Not at Johannes on the night my partner and I were fortunate enough to have enjoyed a truly delightful dining experience. Thank you to all the hardworking team members. Definitely try the Red Velvet Cake for dessert … reimagined and beautifully presented… this choice was not overly sweet and portioned just right. Finally… I hope the palate cleansing berry caramel mini popsicles are always available… because OMG!!!

10/10Wonderful service and delicious thoughtfully prepared meals! It’s on a quieter street by the canal and I sat outside and it was lovely. Inside was nicely decorated with tasteful art. Romantic and serene space. Food was delicious I did the 4 courses and was pleasantly surprised every time! Lastly the manager was very kind and attentive and helped me feel welcomed to Amsterdam my first night of my solo trip. Highly recommend!

8/10I have been here many times, with my wife, my daughter. It has always been excellent. I was in Amsterdam on business and decided to try it alone. I ordered the 5 course tasting menu with wine. I did not get my first course for 20 minutes, and the service was slow over 3 hours. Bread was only offered after the 3rd course and was stale. The matching wines was 2 of the same for 2 different courses. I asked and the waiter didn’t know. The food itself was fine, especially the venison done 4 ways. The space is warm and pleasant. The service was unacceptable and not up to their usual standard. When brought to their attention, they smiles and said they were busy and had “a new computer”. Many restaurants of this level would have apologized, clearly stated it was unacceptable and offered me a drink or small dish on the house. It didn’t seem to cross their mind. I still tipped and may come back. However, I will be carefully reading reviews to see if this very poor service was an exception or is being repeated. I would be interested in other comments on this.

10/10We had previously eaten here recently and wondered if it were possible to have our previous experience topped (which seemed very unlikely as our previous evening was OUTSTANDING). Lo and behold we were wrong our 2nd evening was even better than the first. Best overall dining experience we’ve ever had. Go with the 4-7 course meal and pairings!!! You’ll be amazed. We’re considering come back to Amsterdam just to dine here on another occasion

10/10This was one of the best restaurant experiences we have had. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service was prompt, fast and you were never left waiting., yet we weren’t rushed. The food was outstanding! If you are in for an night of food, wine and service experience this is the place to go!

10/10Wonderful tasting menu and wine pairing. I would not have chosen the wines we had, it was nice to try something different. We sat outside and it was an amazing night. The wait staff was very attentive.

4/10I was rather tired after a long flight and was excited to try this restaurant. The service made me uncomfortable from the beginning. I was told straight out i am not allowed to keep my coat with me, even though it was a light trench coat. I asked for a wine list and they did not have a list with prices for wine by the glass, and they would not serve any tap water, only paid bottled water. It was very long until i finally got the menu, and then I ordered from the one young waiter. About 15 mins later the older man asked me if i ordered and what I ordered because they have to put it in the system... that means my food was never ordered. I saw other new tables come in get seated, order and get their first courses and I was still waiting. 45 mins later, a full hour after sitting down i finally got my starter and unfortunately the shrimp was so undercooked it was not possible to eat. I cancelled my main order as I was too tired to wait anymore, this was not received well and told that it was already made, which doesn't make sense as they literally at this point only just gave me my starter. I was given the full bill, no understanding, apologies or deductions to my bill. This was disappointing and really bad service. I am sorry i did not really get to taste the food and I blame bad service and attitude.
