What a hidden beauty … First visit, while we have our vacation house in San Javier since almost 4 years … what an experience : super tasty food and super friendly service ! Food quality and composition of the dishes is just spot on , not even to mention the superb wine(s) We’ll become “regulars” there , no doubt !

Wow guys! This place is excellent.....don't be put off by the ordinary exterior and the back to basics interior. The food and service are off the charts....and the wine list is something you would see in somewhere like El Portal in Alicante.

We had one of the most memorable meals we’ve ever experienced here. We had steak sandwich, and patatas bravas and they were absolutely delicious What really made the evening special was the atmosphere. You can see the chef cooking throughout the service, and it’s so clear how much passion and care goes into every dish. At one point, they even showed us a dessert fresh out of the oven — such a lovely touch! The service was just as wonderful. Our waitress was incredibly warm and welcoming, even though we don’t speak Spanish and relied entirely on Google Translate. Nothing felt like too much trouble. It’s a small, intimate place with just a few tables, which makes it feel really special — like everything is done with love and attention- The menu also appears to change regularly, which makes it feel fresh and exciting. We enjoyed it so much that we immediately booked to come back again. Can’t wait!

The menu is full of interesting dishes, everything was delicious especially the steak sandwich. The staff are exceptional, particularly the sommelier who helped us choose our wine, and then when she opened it she didn't think it was quite right so brought a new one.

We lived in Cartagena for 4 years and came across the restaurant by accident. We are now living back in New York but whenever we come back for a visit we hit Carmen Playa first thing! After our initial meal here we brought all of our visiting friends and family back because every time we visit Carmen Playa we have a memorable experience. Chef/owner Javi is a super creative and talented chef. His food is, without a doubt, Michelin star quality in every respect without being too fussy, pretentious or over priced! Sommelier/owner Carmen has created a stellar and fairly priced wine list and always recommends the perfect pairing for us. As a chef and restaurant owner myself, I know great quality and service when I see it and these two are the real deal!

A tasting menu for Valentines Day. Oysters, trout roe, stuffed courgette, scallops, grouper, duck, apple tatin, all excellent. Will go back again and again and again.....
