8/10The food was great once it arrived so I would recommend. The service for drinks was slow initially as my colleagues who turned up 5 minutes after us were served drinks before we were. The wait to order was quite lengthy and when the food arrived some starters arrived 10 minutes before others. The overall experience was good, the food was worth the wait but the service wasn’t great. The restaurant did how ever give us some free drinks by way of an apology. I would recommend this place but I think we dined on an off night.

9/10Service was a little slow, but the place was rammed, so there was a reason for it. In any case, the staff were super friendly and the food absolutely amazing so we didn't mind the wait. Best meal I've had for ages. Will definitely go back if I'm ever in haarlem again

8/10Restaurant was bigger than expected as there is also additional space at the back. We took the 4 course surprise menu and although this restaurant is known for their particular meat dishes there was only one meat dish with this course, that was a pity. The wines that came with the dishes were very good and well explained. The seconds dish, a curry soup, didn't fit with the rest. It tasted ok. Service was good, they just had a problem with the pin machines. At the end a nice diner. But next time we will try the a la carte menu, cause it looks there are great dishes on there to try.

7/10The food here is stunning. Think low priced fine dining. We loved the flavour combinations and the UMAMI dishes do exactly what they say on the menu. Only one problem... slow, sporadic service. OK sure, it was a Friday evening but our section was mostly coffees, desserts, and drinkers by the time we got our starter. By the time our main arrived, we had been at the table for 85 minutes. The starter and drinks were relatively fast so once the ball got rolling we expected a rhythm to the meal delivery that never took hold. We were offered more drinks as our starter was collected but as we were half way through the drinks we said no. We weren't asked again for around half an hour. I believe the problem comes down to organisation, our waiter kept changing so they couldn't possibly know where we were in the meal and get that rhythm right. All in all, I would say you must try it, but still, paying 80 to 120 for two 3 course meals should still guarantee service with consistent attentiveness.

10/10Amazing / verbazingwekkend Booked in a table in advance and recommend you do the same. A warm welcome greeted us as we entered this buzzing restaurant, with a big smile from the host we were shown to our table. The atmosphere was great and decor sets the mood. All the front of house staff were friendly, professional and most of all welcoming. Orders were taken swiftly and the experience made the best start to our Anniversary weekend. Now the important bit ! The food. Wow wow wow. All three course packed with flavour, perfectly executed and presentation was 1st class. Recommend the Chinese BBQ Pork Buns, soft steamed bun, Sweet & sour cucumber, Honey Hoi Sin and crunchy peanut. Also the Crudo and Grissini Sweet Tomates, Creamy Buffalo, Salty Ham with explosions of Balsamic Pearls. I rightly or wrong also picked the Wagyu Pork as main (2 pork dishes) but blown away and I would visit again just for the Wagyu Pork enough said ! The other main was Lebanese Lemon Chicken the whole plate gave the full taste of the Middle East. Finally dessert course, Warm Portuguese Custard Tart beautiful and Deep Fried Cookie Dough. But not together !! Highly recommend this restaurant but make sure you book !

9.5/10If you really want to join a delicious and original meal, especially when you can enjoy a good glass of wine. This place is for you. The restaurant looks a bit big and “chainlike”, but don’t be mistaken. The kitchen puts out delicious meals. The wine arrangement definitely is something you should add to the meal.

10/10Oh what a pleasure and unexpected ultimately positive suprise. Did we rate 10 10 10 before? Unfortunately for this restaurant: yes we did. Which leaves us little left to give this restaurant experience the well deserved best note so far… And where to start with the praise? Well it should take time, the pleasureful evening deserves it. 1. Overall experience: There was no special AH restriction on the selection of the menu. In our opinion this reflects the overall down to earth on high quality approach, relaxed and pleasing to the customer – you can find it in all those little details: the understatement relaxed décor, choice of porcelain, the choice of menu offers given, the way the meals are designed, created and served, the phantastic offer of matching wine selection to the world menus, an offer painfully missing in other high priced options we tried in Haarlem so far. 2. Service: Meike was not only friendly, attentive and very helpful, she also was professional at high standards, informing and serving us with ease and comfort, whithout us feeling akward at any point at all. 3. Food: If you enjoy a really relaxed upmarket chef’s palette combined with a trip around the globe mixed with the joy of being positively surprised, entertained in the way the chef combines and redefines standard dish choices like salmon sashimi, greek starters, indian lamb tikka, duck mandarin or caribbean yoghurt flan in nice generous portions like we do, its the perfect location for you. And if you cannot make a decision, just take the “taste of” option (sweets, wine, …) and you will enjoy a wonderful selection. With or without 2 for 1. It’s well worth it. We definitely will go there again. Thank you! PS> Oh was I ranting on? Just so you know: this is the reduced version already :-)

9.3/10Delicious and exciting food! Definitely would visit again. Favourite was crocodile nuggets appetizer and chocolate fondant dessert. Great service, lovely atmosphere. Used in conjunction with Albert Heijn actie, EUR 35 off the bill. Great value for money.

10/10Had a great time and we were pleasantly surprised by the uniqueness of the dishes and how helpful the staff was. Our only problem was when - coming in the restaurant - we were literally pushed out of the door by a guest because someone had just fainted in the restaurant. We would have stepped outside on our own if someone from the staff had told us about the situation, being pushed out by someone other than the staff was very rude and can be perceived as looking for a fight by some people.

9/10This is our 4th time at Specktakel and it is definitely a favorite place of mine in Haarlem. The menu changes regularly which I find great and the food is always amazing! There are always surprising dishes to choose from and that's what makes this place special and makes it top the rest of the restaurants in Haarlem. They always have great presentations with original plates which really elevates the food even more. We usually go for the three course meal with matching wines and it's a delight to be advised good wines by a staff that knows so much about it. We ate in the patio at the back of the restaurant, that place looks great and has a very charming atmosphere. Between the appetizer and the main course we were surprised with a small in between dish (salmon and tuna sashimi style) and that really makes the difference to me. If I have to suggest a restaurant in Haarlem to someone, this is it.

8.3/10Two times we've visited this place with friends and it's always been a full experience (picking the surprise ' Unami ' option). Food is great, service is very friendly and the wine selection has been so good so far.
