If you’re looking for a spot that feels like a warm hug, Taverna das Marias is it. We recently hosted a party of 10 here, and despite our group running a bit late, the staff couldn't have been more gracious or accommodating. The vibe is "intimate-chic." It’s a smaller space, which makes the atmosphere feel incredibly cozy and exclusive. They had live music playing during our visit, which really leveled up the energy without making it impossible to hold a conversation. It’s a truly "cute" setup that works just as well for a romantic date as it does for a rowdy group of friends. The menu is a winner. The food was genuinely amazing, but the real kicker is the portion sizes—they are generous and perfect for sharing, which made our large group dinner much easier to manage. You have to try the Negronis. They were perfectly balanced and hit the spot. Their other cocktails (and "contrails" of creative mixes) were equally impressive. The Service: I can't say enough about the people.

Such a beautiful experience, an absolute gem!

The service was extremely personable, and the food felt authentically Portuguese. We loved learning about the restaurant and its history, and the food was incredibly tasty.
4.5
Desert was heavenly, and white sangria excellent. Other parts of the menu were quite unique. Service was friendly and the waiter explained about the history of the place. We got even a little gift to take home with us! The restaurant was really tiny and so were the tables. On our table it was more suitable for two persona rather than three. Food was quite pricy for the quality and presentation.
Taverna das MariasThank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for spending your Christmas evening with us. We’re genuinely happy to know you enjoyed the dessert, the white sangria, the friendliness of the service, the story of the place — and even the little gift we prepared with care. That said, we must admit a small curiosity on our side. On a Christmas night, on an island where most places are closed, our team chose to step away from their families to welcome guests warmly and ensure a memorable evening. Considering everything was enjoyed and finished, we can’t help but wonder how this translated into such a low overall score. Our space is intentionally tiny, and that intimacy is part of its character and history. As for pricing, we believe in fair value that reflects quality, craftsmanship, and the very special context of the evening. Still, we appreciate your visit and your words. We only hope future reviews reflect the full experience — especially on nights that mean so much on both sides of the table.

What a sweet little place! Perhaps the best dining experience of our visit to Portugal. The staff was delightful, with great energy, explaining the food they serve, as well as, the beers and wines that they offer. We enjoyed their Experience tasting menu and a bottle of wine. The tapas-sized dishes included a variety of meats, fish, and vegetables and everything was excellent! While it is billed as a traditional Portuguese menu with an assortment of regional dishes from throughout the country, based on our other dining experiences, the quality and flavors are a step up. The cozy and friendly atmosphere enhanced our visit even more. As its a tiny place, make sure to make a reservation.

The food was so good we forgot to take photos for our review! We shared the sardine pate on cornbread, the pork rib, but our favourite dish (which was hard to decide on!) was the beer braised cabbage, which had an indescribably tasty creamy and herby sauce. The cosy ambience, friendly and attentive staff and the delicious food has made it a memorable night for our trip. Anyone visiting Lisbon should absolutely plan a meal at Taverna das Marias.

The restaurant impressed us with its beautiful environment and especially with its great food and service. They took care of us as if we were special guests, even though we were there before the official opening. A beautiful experience and we will definitely return to this place on our next visit to Lisbon.

Tiny restaurant with good service, good food, and Fado music playing softly in the background. We truly enjoyed it.

Expensive food for what you are getting. Drinks, however, are well priced. Service is very good. People working there are super nice!

A family meal for 6 on holiday in Lisbon. Can really recommend this little restaurant. Very good value, simple tapas style food. Service was very friendly and attentive. Our waitress took time to answer any questions we had whether about the food or wine available. Finally we were able to hear ourselves speak and had a lovely experience. Probably best to book to ensure a table.

Food was Terrible. Ordered the Chourico with bread and the beet salad with walnuts. The Chou rico was absolutely terrible. Took one bite and set it aside. The salad was decent. The bread that came with the Chou rico was inedible. Worst part is when the server came and saw the full chorizo there and we said it wasn’t good he didn’t offer to replace it with anything else. Stay away from this tourist trap and go find yourself a better spot for Portuguese food.

Such a cozy nice place, very nice "almost hidden" place - love the hot chocolate options very much. Would be nice to have a little more gluten free / vegetarian options for the food and snacks menu

Maruto to is a tiny bistro that you might pass by if you weren’t looking, but don’t miss it. They serve only Portuguese specialty products and tapas. We enjoyed the mixed platter of cheeses, hams, olives & sausages. You must try the cod bruschetta! It’s so delicious! Service is very friendly and helpful! Very reasonably priced for the excellent quality!! Great find!!
