5.5/10The staff are very professional and attentive. However, the food was disappointing. The grilled octopus was good as a starter. The chicken main course was just uninspired and had no flavor, even with the Piri Piri sauce. As a whole, it was not worth it to travel 40 km to encounter such a meal.

10/10Fine service, quiet atmosphere, refined cuisine, a welcome addition to a destination with rich culinary traditions. A reduced menu for lunch compared to dinner but still worth the detour. Excellent wine selection.

The place is beautiful. Vegetable salad was nice like in the pictures, this was unfortunately the main joy of that lunch. We waited 50’ before receiving anything. Meat and fish then served without the sides requested and before the starters. We had fries that we had asked to replace by salad and veggies. The 35 euro medium rare meat dish was served overcooked, cold in a small plate and was … tiny. Quite limited menu and poor service while expensive ! Not a gastronomic stop as we hoped. Disappointing,

Lovely room and service very pleasant. Lunch menu is somewhat smaller but very nice - although the starters could be a little more substantive. No amuse bouche or bread or cheese / olives to nibble on which was slightly surprising. Sea bass excellent and wines fairly priced.

10/10Xtian is a new restaurant in a new hotel (Vermelho) in the northern Alentejo coastal small town of Melides, popular with tourists and travellers. Both the hotel and the restaurant have Indian themes, incorporating design cues from Indian culture, architecture and traditions. The restaurant is open to non-residents. The name Xtian is probably a contraction of 'Christian', as the owner and developer is the famous designer and architect Christian Louboutin, who is French with some Indian heritage too, so he wanted to pay homage perhaps to that country's great heritage within a Portuguese context. Both the hotel and the restaurant are breathtaking. Beautiful design that is beyond the scope of our food review here. We were staying in the area as we regularly do for our annual family holiday, so decided to book a table. It happened to be our wedding anniversary, and we were treated very well that went the extra mile for our celebration. Food is broadly Portuguese, with many classics with an international and fresh twist. A range of meat, fish and vegetable based starters is available as well as a similar range of mains, probably 12 starters and 12 mains to choose from in total. The food was divine and very well presented. Ingredients were clearly very fresh. My wife had a beetroot and goats cheese salad, our son a lovely creamed vegetable soup and I had a exquisitely fresh roots and leaves salad. For mains we had pumpkin risotto, sea bass and turbot respectively. All the dishes were of the highest quality. There were wonderful Alentejo meat dishes that we didn't explore but will on our next visit. A small but superb range of desserts is available and a good range of Port wines to accompany. The wine list is a strong feature, with a fine selection of innovative and classic Portuguese wines (and some top French wines for those feeling extravagant). There are many white and red and rose wines available by the glass and very fair prices. The young, multilingual front of house team keep the customers happy with charm and efficiency. The service and atmosphere is commendably informal and friendly. It's a real pleasure to visit a restaurant that started on the right footing and gets most things right, with a chef and his team that produce lovely dishes in which they take pride, served in a stimulating environment. 8.5/10Food is nice… you can skip starters, cocktails are really good, main courses very tasty and desserts are excellent! Decoration is inspiring and unique, staff is very attentive… but there we have missed this « sharing soul » which is implicite with the oriental café design… music is toooo low… and it is still litlle bit cold… may be too new!! But a nice experience anyway!!

9.5/10The food at Xtian was fabulous. In a region filled with many excellent restaurants, Xtian stands above the rest. The summer tomato soup, the Dorado and the gnocchi were equal to any Michelin starred restaurant in New York - and at a fraction of the price. The interior design - both in the restaurant and in the bar - is stunning. A word about service. We loved that Xtian employs young local people. They were all friendly and sincere in their desire to help. What was missing, however, was a sommelier, or at least someone knowledgeable about wine. Portuguese wines are wonderful, but for those of us who are not native, a little guidance would be useful. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

8/10The decor is smart but the Indian theme a bit bizarre as only really a bunch of posters. The service and food was good but they had a disaster with my starter arriving 15-20 mins after my wives! In fairness they deducted the cost. Teething issues ????????

9.5/10Xtian is a wonderful addition to Melides and the Comporta area. Breakfast and dinner were excellent, well -curated menu, and the service outstanding. The Vermelho Hotel is stunning, if you chose to dine outside you will enjoy the lovely patio, sculpture, and natural environs-we loved the jasmine trees. The dining room is a beautiful room; however, the artwork might be changed to mirror the rest of the hotel. The Egyptian movie posters are very cool but seem out of place. Otherwise, Xtian is an amazing experience.

10/10My sister and I were looking forward to this experience and were not disappointed. We enjoyed a delicious lunch in a beautiful restaurant. We preferred to sit outside but it was too hot but ambiance in the restaurant is lovely. Great service and amazing food. The octopus salad and the goat cheesecake was divine! Definitely recommend!

Absolutely loved our evening at Xtian. The environment--from the decor to the plates to the linens--is very luxe, but both the staff and food are wonderfully welcoming and comforting. Highly recommend for a special meal.
