10/10Dining at Sama Sebo was like coming home for us. We had dined here in 2010 and couldn't wait to return. And we weren't disappointed in anything! We enjoyed the rijsttafel, which is a fixed priced dinner with more than 15 dishes! Service was fast and efficient, and the food was EXCELLENT! We couldn't finish everything, but we sure tried. This will continue to be one of our go-to restaurants in Amsterdam.

5/10We found the service to be poor. One of us did not receive their dinner with the rest of us. When it finally came, it wasn’t correct. Waiters did not seem to care nor did they want to make it right.

5/10Negatives: we didn’t feel welcome, the personnel in charge of the front of the house was rude and not caring even by Dutch standards (which are very low in hospitality industry). Positives: it was our first experience of an Indonesian restaurant, and the food was reasonably on.

9.5/10A fabulous visit. We had the traditional Rijsttafel ,"rice-table " (a huge array of Indonesian dishes) which was very good indeed. The restaurant had a lovely authentic feel and our waiter was both friendly and knowledgeable about the history of Rjsttafel. We remembered having this on our last visit to Amsterdam and were so pleased to experience it again at Sama Sebo

10/10A FRIEND’s RECOMMENDATION A friend recommended this restaurant as one of the best Indonesian in Amsterdam. We thoroughly enjoyed everything. You have a choice of the fixed price rijsttafel or, similar to dim sum, choose your own dishes. Moderately priced. Loved it

6.5/10This restaurant was recommended by a native Dutch couple who travel the world. We had the Rijsttafel, which consists of about 15 small plates. We found the food to be very average, nothing special. We expected more flavor, especially since Indonesia is known for its spices.

8.5/10It was the first time we tasted Indonesian food. Initial reading of the menu was confusing since the main option was huge and the individual parts were not familiar at all. The waiter did explain that we could have a smaller portion which was listed as a lunch item. These turned out to be perfect for dinner and we were more than satisfied. The food was delicious and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

5/10Because we did not want Reistaffel for 2 and requested 1 only and some other dishes, we were recommended to have two of the lunchtime version, which was presented on one plate each rather than having each element in individual small dishes, as in a normal Reistaffel. Some of the food was hot and some lukewarm. I was disappointed and realised that this restaurant is only interested in selling it's premium priced product. The service however was gracious and the environment pleasant.

7.5/10I am not sure why this restaurant had to be booked so far in advance to get a table. It was nothing special and the food was of an average quality. However for a little over €30 they present you with about 15 dishes including hot and cold food, rice, chicken, pork, beef. All very tasty, but a lot of cheap vegetable dishes, which is probably why it’s such good value for the hungry. We noticed all the tables had dishes we didn’t, so we ended up having to ask for grilled prawns which they seem to leave off our menu. Overall very nice, a little cramped and poor ventilation.

8.5/10We selected dishes rather than have the rijstafel as we didnt want to overeat and also fancied trying dishes not available on this such as ikan bumbu bali. We chose 4 mains, 3 sides and a single portion of rice which was adequate for the two of us. With two small beers each it came to 57 euros, which we felt was very good value for the quality of food received.

8.5/10We were a party of 7. The space is small and cozy. The restaurant accomodated us nicely. The service was excellent. This was our first experience with this cuisine. The variety of food was delicious and delivered hot all at once. Reservations recommended.

10/10Visited Sama Sebo 40 years ago and loved it. This visit, we missed the large communal serving table, but food and service were terrific, as we remembered, with individual heated serving dishes. We brought our original menu from 1977, and owner came out personally to welcome us and reminisce, which was lovely. Another memorable rijsttafel experience!

10/10We really enjoyed our rijsttafel experience. The food was delicious and very plentiful. It was presented very nicely and the wait staff was very attentive. We would definitely return and would recommend it to anyone in Amsterdam.

10/10I have been to Sama Sebo from time to time over the last 45 years it never fails to be good. This was reunion from 1960's with ex colleagues (became 7 in total) from USA, France and Germany they were impressed. Thank you for memorable evening

3/10To start, we went out of our way to go to this restaurant and had high expectations. It did not live up to them and I would not suggest anyone gp there. Since it is the only Indonesian restaurant we tried I cannot compare. I have been to Indonesia and been to other Amsterdam restaurants. Compare to them all this food was not fresh. It seemed they have a thing going to give you a large variety of food that was prepared hours or days in advance and charge a lot of money. We made a reservation which was good because we were immediately seated in the more quiet back room. The atmosphere was fine but it was the most crowded arrangement I have ever seen. We could hardly move. The atmosphere was okay but nothing special. We were on the understanding that we could share one ristafel but in fact were told that it would not be allowed - and that it would not be enough food. So, we paid the 32 euros each. More than we paid in any other restaurant including some excellent French and Dutch places.

9.5/10This was our second ricetaffel at the restaurant. There were so many excellent dishes!! Our next visit to Amsterdam (we live in California, and travel quite a bit) will include a meal at Sama Sebo (and so convenuent to the museums anf Leidespleine)

9/10Delicious and easy way to try every dish! We brought our parents here and everyone found something they enjoyed. The service was quick and the drinks were also tasty.
