Went there for the boudin noir, which is pretty hard to find in Paris and virtually impossible to find in the US. Au Bascou has changed chefs, but it tasted as good as it did when I first had it twenty years ago. Wife's veal stew was also excellent. Chocolate dessert also very good. Service friendly and attentive. I actually love that it is such an old school, authentic Parisian restaurant--no frills at all, no ambient music, simple decor--used to be a ton of these, but seemingly harder to find these days. But I understand that some would find its simplicity and hushed atmosphere less than appealing--to each his own--nonetheless hard to give it multiple stars for that given today's expectations. All in all, an easy recommendation for those looking for a simple French Basque dining experience.

I have been eating at Au Bascou while in Paris since 2004, if not earlier. It's always reliable. The menu and wine list are short and well chosen, centering Basque cuisine and southwestern wines. (I almost always choose an Irouléguy.) Service is warm and attentive. One of my favorite Parisian bistrots.

A quiet, understated restaurant with excellent food and a nice wine selection. They were understanding of our 7-year-old granddaughter who came with us. The place is small and intimate, and it is the type of place to go to if you want excellent food and service without loud music and other pretentiousness.

Everything about this restaurant is perfect - the food is wonderful and the servers and host are as welcoming and responsive as we’ve ever experienced in Paris. We never come to Paris without coming here. Nothing reminds us of the special ambiance of Paris as much as this intimate and warm place.

We visit Au Bascou every time we are in Paris and it never disappoints. The food is wonderful and beautifully presented and the service is exceptional. And the price is very moderate. Nothing but praise for this restaurant!

We spent a great evening at Bascou focusing on what mattered most: superb food and wine. The “lièvre à la royale” was delicious, as was the foie gras with the best beetroot condiment I’ve ever tasted. The decor and service is understated but warm. We’ll be back!

Have loved this restaurant for more than 25 years. I have been there with my wife, friends and both of my sons. It’s warm, intimate, great food and wine from the Basque region, always friendly staff. Amazing desserts.

We were recommended this restaurant by a local lady, and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, and a good sized serves. We tried the blood sausage, calamari and lobster dishes, all different, but all tasty. My only suggestion was that it was a little warm inside, and could have benefited from a little light background music. Overall, I’d recommend this restaurant, especially if you are a tourist like myself.

I LOVE this place. Haven't been in awhile but I lived next door for 5 years and it never disappoints. Winelist is short and top notch. Very easy to make a selection and the waiter was very helpful. Went out of my way to go there with an American friend who wanted to try regional food. He and his wife were delighted. Shame on me for letting this classic slip out of my roster. I will be back much more often.

Another wonderful meal at this excellent, small and very traditional restaurant in the haut Marais, just around the corner from the Arts & Metiers metro station. The southwestern inspired cuisine is meticulously prepared and expertly served. Daily specials are a delight. Desserts are varied and seasonal. No hoopla, no aggressive marketing or cloying service. Just great food and a warm, generous welcome. Our neighborhood favorite.

We go here every time we are in Paris! All the regular menu options are solid. Very good foie gras and the seasonal menu is always well executed and priced well. We love their selection of wines--interesting variety of regions and styles. Basque-French is a great cuisine worth exploring in depth starting with Au Bascou!

Food was exceptionel; my husband had riz de veau there last week but they were on special that day. We asked if the kitchen had any they could serve his this current visit. They had one portion available and made it for him on request. They were fabulous, perfectly prepared and sauced. Another in our party had scallops that she said were the best she'd ever tastes. Desserts were sublime -- a mille feuille and a tortiere that were not overly sweet so that all the ingredients shone. Super service and wonderful kitchen. Some very traditional dishes (boudin noir avec pomme purée) and a good well priced wine list. Great small cozy resto.

I had a superb meal at Au Bascou today. The decor is the restaurant’s only weakness but if that was improved, it could become impossible to get a reservation. The axoa, tartlette of apple and prune with Armagnac ice cream and the pate Au Bascou were delicious.

Very good neighborhood spot with consistently delicious food and attentive service. Staff speaks English and will explain the dishes at length if needed. We come here at least once for dinner and lunch every trip to Paris and love it. The daily lunch menu is also wonderful and a great value. Order anything seasonal with duck, truffles, seafood, or mushrooms when they have it.

This is my favourite restaurant to visit when I come to Paris. The milles feuilles are the best I’ve had, period. And every single dish presented is delicious. Absolutely excellent.

Delicious food, a sure hand in the kitchen! The new owner-chef has a lighter approach than his (very fine) predecessor but continues the tradition of excellence. Go!
