6.5/10Mixed Experience at Balo Barcelona After seeing Balo pop up frequently on social media, we were curious to try it for ourselves. We booked a lunch table to sample their set menu, starting with a local sausage and continuing with the pork belly as our main course (which came with a €5 supplement). Unfortunately, both dishes left us underwhelmed. There was nothing technically wrong with the food, but my dining companion and I found ourselves exchanging puzzled looks, silently asking "where's the flavor?" The pork belly portion size was reasonable for the upcharge, but it simply lacked the depth of taste we'd anticipated. The desserts were a different story. We tried both the citrus meringue and chocolate fondant, with the latter emerging as the clear winner—finally, a dish with the rich, bold flavors we'd been hoping for throughout the meal. The service was perfectly adequate but lacked warmth or enthusiasm. Our server was professional enough, but there was no special feeling.

9.5/10We went to BaLo for a date night and were absolutely impressed by the BaLo 7 course menu options. I can't say enough good things about the wine pairing - clearly a lot of thought went into the matching process. The wait staff were knowledgeable but we did feel it was hard to get their attention and it took several attempts to get the check.

+2We chose this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary with their midday menu, and it was a fantastic choice. The quality of the food was exceptional. The atmosphere was a bit formal, but it suited the occasion. The service, while a bit inexperienced, was polite and kind; with a little more training, the staff’s motivation could make the experience even better. For the price, the midday menu offers excellent value, allowing guests to enjoy the restaurant’s high standards at a more accessible rate, though dinner may feel a bit pricier. Overall, it was a memorable experience, and we would gladly recommend it to others.

Excellent presentation, good combination of textures and temperatures. Some amazing umami bombs. Careful selection of wines for the wine pairing. Good quality price ratio.

A splendid lunch at a reasonable price. Three choices of approved, mains, and desserts. Beautiful and tasty food with excellent and attentive service. Enjoyed briefly speaking to the owners. Located in a residential quarter near the Diagonal. A bit hard to find as it is behind the main building but worth the effort.

5.5/10Wine pairing was excellent, dishes on house taster varied alot, some very good (squid) and some poor (lamb all fat served in crazy high sided bowl. Staff were hit and miss, but noise from private dinning area meant I couldn't hear waiter describing our dishes. They catered for my wife's celiac disease, but supplied bread to table that was simply toast from a sliced loaf? Both amazed at the lack of creativity. It was only an ok experience that wasn't saved by a too few really high points.

9.5/10Food is great, Service is also great. The Restaurant has a problem with a comfy atmosphere: the room was not heated enough (even though the service people try to change that - but it was still not comfortable). Also the lightning concept is not good. It does not feel like a gourmet restaurant - there should be some light at the table and not high up in the ceiling - there are plenty of solutions with nice rechargable lamps theses days. Even though I liked the food - I would probably not come back.
