9.5/10If you always go into a restaurant experience in a relaxed and enthusiastic frame of mind, then the dining experience will reward your positivity. The staff at Bij den Boer were lovely and the food was superb. I can heartily recommend the foie gras and my partner very much enjoyed her corvina (both on the €24 lunch menu.) All four of our party walked away from BdB happy to have eaten there for our last meal in a fabulous trip to Brussels.

7.5/10It was dinner for two on a busy Friday evening and the food was great. We had the set menu of fish soup, scallops and oysters which were tatsy. And we had the sunfish and monkfish for mains, though dishes were quite similar in taste profile, delicious nevertheless. The staff were friendly however the service was slow and had to prompt them every step. The couple on next table were still waiting for starters when we finished our mains, though having being seated at the same time. Would definitely return but perhaps on a weekday.

9.5/10Excellent food, good service but stressful welcome… We booked the only available time slot (as from 14h), we arrived on time but we were told that the restaurant did not received the booking and that 14h is too late… Nevertheless, they accepted to serve us food but maximum one dish… Finally we received main dish, dessert and coffee (all excellent), so it’s a pity that we had this useless stress at our arrival.

8/10I have been going to Bij den Boer for 35 years - approximately once a year. The food is always good, the servers always a little haughty, but efficient and sometimes helpful. It doesn’t matter to me as I always enjoy my meal. The sole meunière is excellent, as is their house rose wine. Give it a try!

10/10We had an exceptional lunch at a local establishment. Wait staff was extremely professional and kind. He assisted us in explaining the menu due to our lack of the language. Everything from drinks to dessert was sublime. We wouldn’t hesitate recommending this restaurant to all. What an enjoyable gastronomical experience.

9.5/10This resto in centre of Brussels with metro station ideally placed outside the door has been one of our favourites for 40, yes forty, years. Brilliant fish dishes - magnificent sole meuniere

7/10My guests loved the atmosphere and our waiter was very pleasant but my monkfish was over cooked and the dish it was served in was hot enough to burn my hand when I brushed against it.

6.5/10The good news was that the mussels were excellent - plump juicy, plentiful and hot with good frites. The restaurant was buzzy. The bad news was that they had no record of my booking. However I stood my ground and eventually we were sat next to the kitchen which was ok. However there was a lot of muttering and puffing.

9.5/10Not a huge fish lover, but all dishes were delicious - even the fish soup! Boisterous atmosphere but still able to have a conversation without shouting. Seemed like a genuine local place. Recommended.

5/10Apparently reservations you make post 6pm don’t work.. we reserved for 7.30pm and had our mains bt 9.30pm... Also, mussels there are relatively small.

10/10Excellent restaurant for fish. Menu includes soup, two fish courses and dessert. There are a few non-fish options but standout dishes were scallop and white fish.

5/10Took 20 minutes to be acknowledged by any server once sat at our table, and we only then got helped because I tapped a waiter and asked for service. Even though we spoke English when we were sat, we were not given English menus until it was clear that we were trying to use Google translate app to figure out what to order. No one checked on us while we ate to see if we liked the food or wanted another drink. The food was good, but not great. The tasting menu looked like a good value, but we were not hungry enough for 4 courses, so we opted to order a al carte, which was dramatically more expensive than the tasting menu (basically paying significantly higher prices because we didn’t want to waste food or stuff ourselves). What is the point? There are so many delicious restaurants in Brussels. Disappointing because we were excited to eat here, but we’re quite let down.

5/10It has been our fourth visit at this restaurant since 2008. We have always appreciated the cuisine and their really good tasty dishes. We recommended this restaurant to many our friends who have been visiting Brussels during the years. Oyster, fish soup, those was always delicious. This was the reason to visit bij de boer again and again. But yesterday was the worst visiting ever. As we arrived was the reaction of bored deeply unmotivated waiter very insulting. Even for obviously his fault in our reservation we never heard a excuse. A very rude behavior of this waiters let a very sad impression. I think this was our last visit at bij de boer.
