The food was excellent. Great ambience. However , the overall experience was marred a. little. The staff were excellent but it seems that there is no flow or continuity in service. One staff member gave us menus , returned and took our order. Then another staff member cames and gave us menus and asked if we wanted to order !! Food came before drinks. Waited longer for dessert than main course and even longer for a cognac that we had asked for with our coffee. We had 4 different members of staff service our table resulting in confusion on the bill with us being charged twice for the cognac. This was rectified. You probably need to consider the same staff member to the same table , allocating a staff member to cover the bar and one to show guests to the tables. Should be 10/10 but the service was not the best.

04/04/2026-Food and service were good. The restaurant seemed to be a little dysfunctional everyone just seemed out of sorts. Ordered a salad and thought it would come before main course but I never mentioned that to the staff. Food was very tasty.

Last minute find that is a gem! We enjoyed a fantastic meal of salad and steak with very friendly and attentive staff. The Chocolate Dream was delicious. 😊

Steaks were perfectly cooked they achieved all our expectations. Place was busy which is good to see. Seats were large and comfortable.

The experience stated off ok when we checked unmanageable she was nice and friendly. After that, the experience went downhill. We asked the waitstaff if they could accommodate a severe garlic allergy and they were more than happy to make a hamburger garlic free. Out of caution, we talked to the chef in the kitchen and they were not aware of the severity of the allergy and understood better how to make sure the food would be safe. However when the meals arrived there was a large clove of garlic on all the plates, including the one that had the allergy as a garnish. One of our other hamburgers came rare when it was supposed to be well done. Only 2 of the meals were able to be eaten. We had to continually ask for more water and ketchup for the table. The bill was incorrect and had to be adjusted. What was supposed to be a great last meal for our trip to Amsterdam left us hungry and very dissatisfied.

Hopefully just an off night. We were seated immediately, the martini was delicious, and the Spanish ham bruschetta was perfect. Our server lacked personality, not even a welcome, just an immediate what do you want! Our steaks were supposed to be medium, they were raw. The boards they served them on were all scratched and dry. Seemed unsanitary to us. The bar was cluttered with used glasses, you couldn’t even sit at the bar. Too bad, this restaurant came highly recommended by several people.

On our last night visiting Amsterdam we wanted a nice steak dinner and Black and Blu delivered in a big way! The drinks were great, the bread was warm and delicious. The steaks were cooked to perfection!

The food was fantastic, but very unfortunenate that the restaurant was almost full and the staff had to much to do. That led to a lot of waiting and forgetting about the orders.

We were forgotten so many times, we thought the server might've finished their shift and left for the night. The black and blue salad did not show up as ordered and it seemed unbalanced yielding very little flavor. The fries, small tenderloin, and oysters were the highlights of the night. I have no compulsion to return.

Great meat-focussed place, steak was done expertely, yet somehow the burger was still the highlight. Recommended

Nothing particularly special about this restaurant. It was ok. I would not recommend it to friends. There are many better places in Amsterdam. The food was ok - meat well cooked. Soup was tepid and scallops not good.

Black and Blue is a very stylish restaurant. The food is good, but by no means exceptional. The seating is cramped, the tables are small; every inch of floorspace is filled with tables. The waiting staff is young and inexperienced. My bearnaise sauce was just a butter emulsion; no tanginess, no tarragon, and it was cold. My wife's allergy was not well handled. That said, the steak was excellent, and the ambience was great. Would I go again? No; I can only give it 3.5 out of 5.

The decor of this restaurant is lovely and cocktails are delicious but that's where it ends with the positive feedback. The service was awful, Dutch service is relatively slow and laid back but this was next level. We had to remind our waitress for new cutlery, water and when other tables who arrived after us got their main meal, we had to remind her of ours! The tables are extremely tight, which effects the overall ambiance of the restaurant. We didn't stay for dessert as we just wanted to leave at that point. While paying for our meal we were asked how we got on and we informed the lady, who apologized and gave us a discount on our bill. Overall we had high hopes given the reviewed ratings of this restaurant but we left very disappointed and would not recommend this place. Amsterdam full of great restaurants so plenty of others to choose from!

WE booked there with a 50% discount on a Sunday night and they said we had booked the wrong restaurant - another 20 mins away on checking we had not - surprise was they had tables available but no discount. A bit of a con but good food - they were a bit disorganised as several couples were turned away the there was several tables available - not sure about this chain- but lovely young people working from them- maybe it needs to be better organised. ,

What a shame. Food was amazing, the service was shocking, laughable. Really didn’t feel like a valued customer, more a spare part. Such a shame.

This was our first night of a surprise birthday trip for my husband and I was very pleased with my choice of restaurant. The restaurant was very busy for a mid week night but the service was efficient and friendly in spite of being so crowded. Excellent cocktails and superb rib eye steak.

Unfortunately our visit was disappointing. The service wasn’t very attentive. Out steak was undercooked and the server wasn’t even apologetic. It was an expensive meal and the quality/service didn’t match the price. The scallop appetizer was excellent!

Everything in this restaurant is outstanding. The staff is really friendly and we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a Spanish speaker host. The food is well presented in generous portions and really good.
