10/10I read a review on The Fork that called Contrario - vineria con cucina a hidden gem and I definitely agree. The ambience is so beautiful. We ate in the first room surrounded by wine bottles in a soft light. We started with a salad of porcini mushrooms, celery & radishes that was delicious. My husband had the scallops and then the gnocchi with mussels. I had the grilled swordfish with rosemary potatoes and am still thinking about it. Delizioso! The staff was so friendly & helpful. It was a nice change from the heavy meals we have eaten so far. When we return to Rome we will definitely dine here again. Five stars all the way.

9/10We had the crostini di pane with black truffles as a starter. Then the basilicum pasta with buratta. The service is excellent and very smooth. They give you excellent wine advice. The restaurant itself is well dressed with lot of wine bottles. The dessert was not the best we had in Rome, unfortunately. A good restaurant in Rome with excellent service and good atmosphere!

4/10Showed up with toddler 5 minutes before they opened for dinner and they were kind enough to seat us. Got our orders in first but were served last out of all outdoor tables. Nearly a 2 hr meal when we were trying to get our little guy home to sleep and were fighting tantrums. Pasta was good but not revelatory (ordered Carbonara and amatriciana). Prosciutto y melone was lower quality than most. Carpaccio was... concerning (slightly above room temp, grisly, off taste). Sea bass special was fishy. Disappointed based on high rating

7.5/10Above all, the food was very enjoyable & the menu and individual dishes suggested more thought and passion had gone into them than the myriad local competitors. Pricing is subsequently a little higher than average for the area, but that seemed a fair reflection of the quality. The wine list is extensive - literally a full A4 binder - with a very wide range of prices from under 30 Euros to over a thousand. Service was quick to start but tailed off at the end when we seemed invisible to the staff, so we decided against more wine or aperitifs. The only other gripe was the staff were constantly filling our glasses after every other sip, which some may enjoy but I find distracting. Overall, a cut above the (already decent) local average, but with room for some small improvements to make it really special.

9/10Contrario - Vineria con Cucina turned out to be a delightful discovery on The Fork app. The intimate interior of the restaurant, while cozy, added to the charm of our dining experiences on two separate occasions. The restaurant's permanent menu, although rather small, was complemented by a daily fresh sheet, offering an array of options. To our delight, all the dishes we ordered were not only delicious but were also served promptly, showcasing the kitchen's efficiency. For those seeking traditional Italian cuisine in a relaxed and semi-casual environment, Contrario - Vineria con Cucina is worth considering.

10/10We had an excellent meal at Contrario. Great menu and super execution. Service was outstanding. The wine list is extensive, but our server was very helpful in suggesting a wine that we really enjoyed. We liked the display of wines lining all the walls. Our server provided several other nice touches such as providing us with 3 different olive oils to try. We will plan to return on our next visit to Rome.

9.5/10Food was exceedingly tasty. Staff were wonderful. Wine suggestion was completely appropriate for price range and food being consumed. Portion sizes for pasta were large enough to split (which the kitchen helpfully did).

10/10Dinner was extraordinary! Delicious wine recommended by their sommelier. Scallops with sprinkled truffles, veal, beef cheeks, rigatoni in cream sauce. All of it delicious!! Not a morsel was left on our plates. *chef’s kiss*

10/10Amazing food and great service! Food in Italy has been amazing but Contrario has been one of the best. My only regret is that I am travelling alone so I could not try as many dishes as I wanted to. I look forward to returning before leaving Rome.

8.5/10The welcome we received on arrival was lovely and the restaurant has a great feel to it. The wine selection was excellent and we received some helpful advice. Two out of three of us had a good meal although the other party was not happy with the size of her mussels. My pigs cheek was delicious! We should have made our thoughts known at the time about the mussels. Overall a pleasurable experience.

9/10Lovely, we arrived and were able to sit outside and listen to the nearby music. We ordered two glasses of rose which were so good that we ordered a bottle. The atmosphere was great and the waiters were attentive.
