Price is too high for the food

Everything here made for a perfect first meal in Rome. The staff were friendly and gave great service, the food was some of the best we ate all trip. I loved the Cacio e Pepe and my son said it was the best Carbonara he’s ever eaten.

A nice mood created with wines on show, mood lighting and Christmas decor. Food was good but a couple of dishes were better than others.

I have to say, I was traveling by myself in Roma and found this place is one of my first restaurants. The food was amazing. The service was impeccable and the ambience was a quaint little restaurant that really should be larger than this, but I’m glad it’s not.

We were in Rome three days and to us, it was the best restaurant. The decor and atmosphere were welcoming and warm and the staff were friendly and helpful with suggestions of great food and wine. Everything we ate and drink was superb. If we ever return to Rome, Contrario is the first place we’ll go.

I read a review on The Fork that called Contrario - vineria con cucina a hidden gem and I definitely agree. The ambience is so beautiful. We ate in the first room surrounded by wine bottles in a soft light. We started with a salad of porcini mushrooms, celery & radishes that was delicious. My husband had the scallops and then the gnocchi with mussels. I had the grilled swordfish with rosemary potatoes and am still thinking about it. Delizioso! The staff was so friendly & helpful. It was a nice change from the heavy meals we have eaten so far. When we return to Rome we will definitely dine here again. Five stars all the way.
