6/10I made a lunch reservation for 6 people months in advance to ensure we would be able to enjoy this restaurant it was my most anticipated meals of our trip. The greeting, ambiance, and service were very good. However, when it came to the food it was less than ideal. I ordered duck and it was served lukewarm and very well done. It was like two pieces of hardened leather on a plate and quite inedible. The server had to know that this was inappropriate. My other lunch mate that ordered duck had much nicer slices of medium rare presentation. My panna cotta dessert was still frozen in the center. In hindsight I should have returned the duck. Much is made of this restaurant’s history. Julia would be ashamed.

10/10We dined here in November 2024 during the lunch service. The food and the service made it a fabulous experience.. They received us with conviviality. We spent 2.5 hours over lunch and enjoyed every minute of it. Each dish was delicious and perfectly prepared. The food was excellent and you will not find another cheese selection as large as their offering! It was a cheese adventure. Our favorite part of our service was our server Jake. Who spoke excellent English and explained every course with enthusiasm while answering our many questions. He made our culinary adventure fun. We will make every effort to get back to this fine establishment on a future trip!!! Thank-you Chef and staff of La Couronne. From, Duane & Katherine Amsler

10/10An exceptional experience! I was traveling alone in Rouen, and decided on this establishment to have dinner on my first night. Wow! A warm, welcoming, beautiful restaurant. The food was delicious (don't skip the cheese plate) and service remarkable. Thomas personally took care of everything and was so friendly. He really took the time to make sure every detail was perfect. The meal was a great start to mt stay in Rouen and I highly recommend it to everyone- solo travellers and groups alike.

10/10Unforgettable experience. Unique food that you. Can’t try anywhere else (we had a duck that was prepared in front of us using old recipes). Absolutely love the ambiance.. Old-fashion charming decor (this restaurant is the most oldest one in France), friendly atmosphere. The waitress Alan was amazing. Indefinitely, this place should be visited for old recipes experience and great time.

7.5/10The restaurant building is amazing. So old & beautiful. Sadly, for us, the food didn’t live up to the price. The pate fois gras, oysters, soufflé & hors d’ouevres were tasty. The rib of beef (speciality) was chewy with little flavour. The mille-feuille was beautiful but bland. The staff were friendly & helpful but we left feeling this restaurant was not worth the money & was living on its past glories

7/10The kitchen is to be commended; the food was excellent. The service, however, could be improved. At times it bordered on surly, and we waited 45 minutes for dessert. We waited an additional 45 minutes for our check and were then brought the wrong one. There are many excellent restaurants in Rouen; we won’t be returning to this one.

10/10Most tourists hit the OBV in France... visiting the standard INSTA icons and eating the standard French meals at pleasant little restaurants. As world travelers and committed FOODIES, we want something more. Across all of the cuisines in all the restaurants of all the countries my 58 years has presented me, I can think of nothing that outshines our experience at LA COURONNE (France's oldest auberge). Arriving for the 7:30pm seating and staying until after 11:00pm, we hit upon their classic meal ... Oysters with Mignonette Sauce to start (extraordinary), Chateaubriand topped with fresh pan-fried Fois Gras in the classic Chef Marie-Antoine's Briand Sauce served with Dauphinoise Potatoes (extraordinary), and the Dessert du Maison, Souffle Grand Marnier (extraordinary). Two visits to the table by the flamboyant matron-de-maison added to the ambiance. My recommendation? If you have any love for French Cuisine, do not die before you eat at LA COURONNE...

5.5/10The food was reasonable. The service was so slow. Our plates from our main course sat in front of us for over 30 minues once we were obviuyosly done with piles of fat and inedible bits of the beef, not a great view. If you want 3 courses in 3 hours then this is the place for you. If they don't have the staff to handle all the tables maybe don't fill so many tables. They seem to serve to suit themselvges, keeping all the tables on the same courses. I certainly won't go back again.

4/10The lobster was frozen before and like chewing gum. The main course was a little duck leg on mashed potatoes - very tiny. I had been several times visited this restaurant, but this time it was the last time.

10/10I tend to have a simple taste palette but I enjoy cooking and have always been curious to try a genuine gourmet experience. On a recent and first time visit to Rouen, I followed the advice of reviewers and visited La Couronne, famed as the location where Julia Child enjoyed her first great French meal. My expectations were consequently high and I can say with great pleasure that La Couronne exceeded every expectation! I tried several dishes that were completely new to me and each one was a delicious dream that I never wanted to awaken from! I cleaned my plates completely because I could not bear to send back one morsel unenjoyed. It was a genuine revelation that has expanded my appreciation for excellent food and bolstered my courage to try even more new foods to find my next favorite. The dinner at La Couronne will delight your senses and bring an immediate smile to your face and great satisfaction to your soul.

6/10Food was reasonable not outstanding. Service was not up to scratch in a variety of ways. Menu was old and worn, wine list had things scored out and a number of pages actually disintegrated at edges. We chose to have a 1/2 bottles of white to start, all poured into the 2 glasses in 1 go and not equally to my wife’s disgust. Our bottle of red to follow, waiter would have used same glasses if I had not requested new ones. Service generally a bit slow despite not being busy. One knife had a bent point which I swapped with a neighbouring table. Living on its history and needs a revamp.

9/10The prix-fee dinner for 44 Euro (58 with a Demi bottle of wine) was a great dining experience of classic French cuisine. All the courses were delicious, well prepared and paced well. Service was slow at the beginning especially for a Tuesday 20:00 reservation. It took 45 minutes to get our cocktail order in but after that delay it got much better. We enjoyed dinning in the upstairs room with dark wood paneling, leopard carpeting and a huge fireplace. Overall a great dining experience.
