If you like meat superbly cooked and beautifully presented do go here. We had a delicious dinner of venison and veal, all served quickly and efficiently by a very welcoming staff. This is a lovely, traditional restaurant that doesn't rest on its laurels - it was very busy with locals when we visited, which is always a good sign. Highly recommended.

As a food writer and cookery book author, whenever I visit a new place I look for the best of the local, traditional restaurants that have no interest in food fashion, but offer good ingredients prepared as simply as possible so they speak for themselves. And as important, the welcome and service. The staff at the Valtellinese treat their youngest customers with as much warmth and professionalism as they do strangers, tourists, locals. Polenta is a staple dish in Bergamo and it is porcini season. Here, both are cooked so that the soft, slippery texture of the fungi is complemented by the pool of polenta. The buckwheat pasta tossed with a local, melting cheese and flecks of chard is a point: earthy, lactic, wholesome. The ambience is traditional too, wood panelled, high ceilinged, comfortable. All the waiters were warm, professional and clearly enjoying the job they take both seriously and lightly.

Very good food is pretty much the same as the original you eat on the spot in Valtellina. Very well maintained very well prepared. Excellent selection of wines from Valtellina and elsewhere, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, and numbers appropriate to the room. Price corresponding to the quality.

I recently had an amazing meal at this restaurant, which serves traditional food from the Valtellina region in Italy. The restaurant is beautiful, clean, and comfortably air-conditioned, making it a great place to relax. The service was excellent. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional, without being intrusive. They recommended a fantastic local wine that went perfectly with our meal. The food was delicious and authentic. Recommend to try the Pizzoccheri (a local pasta dish, rare to find anywhere else in Italy), cold cuts, polenta, and the traditional tzigoiner (meat on a stick). On a more practical note: no parking on the premises, but there are some paying parkings nearby at just a few minutes walk (for a 2 hours stay, it's about 6 euros and generally safer than parking on the street). Overall, this is a great spot for anyone looking to enjoy genuine Italian, regional food that is not internationally known. Highly recommend!

We stumbled on La Taverna, around the corner from our hotel, and were very happy with its cozy Alpine (warm wood paneling, elk antler chandeliers, crisp white tablecloths), ambiance, traditionally attired and well trained waiters, and menu choices. The whole evening was very pleasant.

Whole menu with wife. For dessert, We couldn't cope with anything else but Limoncello Authentic Taverna with cosy atmosphere. Location a bit hard to find but worth the effort. Tartar steak was excellent.

A proper and highly popular restaurant that combines excellent cooking and service. Add to that a great wine list, especially those from the Valtellina and you are in fo an excellent meal. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Service was great but food was simply uninspired. Risotto with porcinis was just okay with barely any porcinis. Rice was cooked perfectly but the dish itself lacked flavor. Pizzocherri was too dry and had more of a gluey texture from the cheese which muddled the flavors and really took away from the dish.

The food was very good. We wanted to try the traditional food from this region and it delivered on that front. It is just very heavy and meat forward so more an issue of our tummies needing a break by this point in our trip. It is old school eating, very traditional and well prepared though.

Enjoyable food and quaint environment. I regret though that we were charged 4 euros pp for the bread (which price was not mentioned on the menu, and was really a lot for the bread we got) and that we were the only table not to be given some sweets and cakes with the bill (maybe we were the only not-Italian table?)

Nice dinner place with local atmosphere (at least from our non-local point of view). Quite big, so probably is easy to find table without booking before 21:00, after that time in the middle of the week, it was quite full.
