On a cold overcast day I did not know what I wanted to do with my day. So I scanned The Fork and found this restaurant. There are two highly rated restaurants in this small town and in the end I decided on this one! It did not disappoint. The food was good but the service even better becaUe of Andrea. He was kind and let me struggle through my Italian. I can imagine a evening meal would be exceptional but I loved being there on a quiet Tuesday for lunch. Worth the visit to this charming town.

Excellent pasta, we recommend the duck ravioli and the tuna. The service was just right and it was lovely to sit outside on the terrace taking in the lovely village of Monticchiello

This was THE highlight of our trip to Italy. Not only was the food the absolute best thing we ate out of many beautiful things, the server and the chef were so hospitable. This chef really should be famous. His brilliant pairings between the food and the wine were innovative, and really perfectly balanced. As of someone, I find this incredibly rare. The dessert was a once in a lifetime spectacle of white chocolate, olive, and almond. The ambience was cool on the inside and reminded you of being in an Italian grandmothers seller eating with her family. I’ve literally never had an experience like this, and I likely will not again. an absolute jewel in Pienza.

The restaurant offers not only top-notch food but also an unforgettable experience. We came for dinner and ended up with much more. The staff was well-informed and ensured we felt cared for throughout our visit. They explained each dish in detail, helping us both taste and understand the cuisine. Despite having just 12 options on the menu, the food was among the best we've ever had. It's clear the team put significant effort into perfecting each element before serving it. The ambience exceeded our expectations as well; the quietness of Monticchiello in the evening made it feel like a private city tour. Overall, Fra Paolino has earned our loyalty, and we are eager to recommend it to others!

What a delightful, delicious experience! We found this little gem on the recommendation of our Airbnb hosts, whose grandparents started the restaurant back in the 70s. All five of us (2 adults, 2 teens, and a child) opted for the tasting menu and were surprised by each course. The amuse bouche, a fried polenta ball with pesto and gazpacho, left us intrigued and excited for the rest of the meal: delicious, perfect blend of flavors and textures. Next: beef tartare with pesto and a white sauce of garlic and anchovy—my 10 year old tore into the dish and gobbled up every last bit! We all LOVED it (even the skeptic among us). First course was handmade papardelle with a rabbit ragu. The noodles practically melted in your mouth they were so tender and fine. The ragu was so delicious. Second course was one of the freshest and most tender pieces of beef we’d ever tasted—slow roasted beef cheek accompanied by potatoes, celeriac chips, and a demi-glacé of wine. To finish the meal, dessert was white chocolate cream with an olive oil cream sauce, fresh olive oil, and small dried olives sprinkled on top. I have to say, this was one of the most uniquely satisfying desserts I’ve ever tried—surprising, light, a perfect blend of savory and sweet. We stopped by the kitchen afterwards to congratulate the chef and share our delight. Two hours of wonderfully special dishes, a modern spin on old world flavor that will not disappoint. You must visit Monticchiello for its medieval charm and world-class restaurant scene. Well done!

Ambiance and service are great. In terms of food, we loved their bread, the small hors d’œuvre was decent and a great gesture from the chef. Great pasta, one of the best I have had on this trip. But when it comes to their meat dishes, it was disappointing. I had a pork belly, the skin should be crispy, it was very tough and not eatable. The pork itself was also tough, it did not look to me like pork belly. To find out weather this is the way how the region cooks the pork belly, I tried the same dish in a different restaurant the next night, it was fabulous. I polished the whole thing. So I am not sure what happened there. My husband had beef filet, he said it was so so.

I have a house in the area so have been to Montichiello many times. This was my first time at Osteria fra Paolina and it was great! Warm hospitality and inviting interior. A perfect stop for a solo lunch on a cloudy day.
