Food was excellent worthy of a 4 star restaurant including the dessert buffet presented by the pastry chef/student. The room was harsh and too modern and the service was awkward and amatuerish but very pleasant......would recommend it for the food and worth the price of 49E

We did not know what to expect when we booked at Vatel. The restaurant itself is lovely. Do dress up when you go! There were 2 prix fixe menus available. 3 of us chose the 42 euro menu and one chose the 54 euro menu. None of us were disappointed. The food was excellent, the portions just right. The wine menu was reasonably priced and the selection was good. We were able to get really good wines for not much more than wine store prices. The service was a bit spotty. One of us got the wrong first course but she was happy with it in the end (the foie gras). The wait staff were lovely young students so their inexperience did not detract from the evening. In fact it enhanced it (strangely enough) because they were so earnest and charming. I have been in Paris many times over the years and this rates up there in terms of food and wine experiences.

We live in the neighborhood and Vatel is our favorite not-so secret place! Incredible value, delicious and beautiful with wonderful young staff.

This restaurant is a school for future managers of gastronomy / Michelin star places. Everything is cooked and served by the students, the older ones supervising the younger ones. Thé good is amazing and so is the focus on the service quality - for them, this is the whole point

Very hospitable service. Excellent food. Had the lamb curry as suggested. I'm not a lamb fan but this was delicious. And the bread the best so far in a Paris. Incredible selection of deserts. I had a sampler including a passion fruit cheese cake with macaroons. Amazing cheese plate too. You have to go for a wonderful experience. And not a budget buster either.
