The menu featured gratin prepared in multiple styles. My wife had the Gratin Nicoise, and the preparation was true to form. However the thick cheese crust was covered in dried herbs that made the cover inedible. My choice of the meat and cheese platter was better...but not much. The meats were 4 puny pieces of "white" ham, mortadella, prosciutto and a spicy salami. The 4 cheeses were not much better

We booked Bistro des Augustins several days in advance and, on the day, I phoned to check we would have an outside table. I was told this couldn’t be guaranteed but they would do their best. It was a boiling hot evening and, when we arrived, there were no outside tables and we were ushered to a table at the back of the very tiny restaurant, and assured that, as soon as an outside table became free, we would be moved. The heat was stifling, there was a ceiling fan, which wasn’t working and my 16 year-old granddaughter was almost overcome with the heat, as was I. The food was fine, although, for me, could have had a bit more flavour. We stuck it out in the heat and left as soon as we could. Of course, as we left we saw that all the outside tables had changed clientele, but we had not been offered one. Sadly, never again.

The gratins are amazing, the staff, especially Pier, are great and so friendly. A small little local restaurant that you hope to discover that doesn’t look special but you find out it is once you step inside. Places like this make your trips even more special. However, make a reservation!

Small shotgun restaurant not far from Notre Dame (although hot inside if it’s a warm day). The most delicious gratin I’ve ever had. The owner was very helpful and nice. Will go again next visit to Paris.
