9/10It's off the beaten path and a little tucked away but a gem of a restaurant. A friend recommended it t me. It's non-touristy so knowing some Spanish will be very helpful or at least having Google Translate translate the menu. My server was polite and excellent. She was patient with my non-Spanish and obliged when I placed a second order to takeway. They wrapped it up extra tight inclusing with saran wrap so the contents wouldn't spill! Amazing. My only regret is that I was not sure about the tipping policy and paid with a card and left without leaving any money. (I did not have any euros on me) I felt bad and hope to return to the restaurant and leave a generous tip for that server someday.

10/10Food was delicious. Portions were more than enough. You can actually order entrees and share them with one more person. Staff was friendly, attentive and gave us suggestions as to what to order. We’d definitely visit it again. Try rabo de toro (bull’s tail) it’s delicious.

About this restaurant
The Tavern Antonio Sanchez, founded in 1830 by “picador” Colita, is one of the oldest and best preserved bullfighter's taverns in Madrid. Antonio Sanchez Ruiz became the owner in 1884 and named the Tavern after his son the bullfighter Antonio Sanchez, who retired in 1922 after being seriously injured more than twenty times while bullfighting. During these years he befriended Spanish painter Ignacio Zuloaga, who established at the Tavern several debate meetings and art exhibitions. The Tavern Antonio Sanchez keeps its original decor from 1884, including its antique furniture, primitive carved wooden bar, mirrors, and lamps. In display you will find several historical bull heads, such as “Fogonero”, that gave the alternative to Antonio Sanchez. Come and visit the Tavern, you will travel back in time to the most emblematic Madrid enlightenment. Our tavern has been recognized as CENTENARY ESTABLISHMENT by the Madrid chamber of commerce and by the business federation of restaurants and bars The Tavern Antonio Sanchez is dedicated to keep alive the secrets of traditional Spanish cuisine, preserving original receipts and cooking processes. Our specialties are Bull tile, Traditional Madrid stew, Gipsy pot, Callos a la Madrileña, Snails, Torrijas ... And many more traditional dishes. The tavern Antonio Sanchez is located in the heart of the old “castizo” Madrid. Next to the Tirso de Molina square and 5 min walking distance to Puerta del Sol or Plaza Mayor.
