9.5/10We had a very good overall experience at Vagneur, having driven up from Aosta to enjoy lunch at over 1700 mts in the small hamlet of Vens. It was worth the drive. We had the best gnocchi I have ever tasted. The cuisine was very much like home cooking and we left full but without that heavy sleepy feeling. Judging by their accents our fellow diners were locals and we followed their lead by opting for cold beers rather than wine. Service was a little slow as a problem meant the chef had arrived late but we were warned in advance and the staff were relaxed and friendly. In short, this is a pleasant small mountain restaurant with good local dishes (polenta is on the menu, which must be great in winter). It's not for those looking for fine dining and a selection of wines. That's its charm.

10/10What a pleasant surprise! After randomly choosing this restaurant from the Fork, we drove up the snowy mountain on a well plowed road to a warm and inviting authentic mountain chalet. We enjoyed a traditional Alpine meal which pleasantly surprised us. The service was professional and accommodating, the waiter spoke multiple languages and the food was exceptional. Highly recommended, it's well worth the extended drive.
