On our first night in Bologna after an exhausting trip, we were hoping for a light meal with local flair. Le Arcate was the perfect spot. We arrived at 8:00 to a half-empty restaurant. By 8:30, it was filling up. By 9:00, it was hopping!! And, we understood why. The food was very good. I had the classic spaghetti with ragu (known at home as "spaghetti bolognese") - it was better that ANYTHING I ever previously ate which pretended to be spaghetti bolognese. The lightly spiced meaty sauce was tossed into homemade pasta. With grated local cheese, it was perfect comfort food. My husband had the pasta fagioli; he described it as "very tasty" and quite filling. We were too full from our pasta dishes to order a second course. Still, we split a small sponge cake coated with lemon creme. I greatly enjoyed it. My husband was less enthusiastic because he has an aversion to creamy desserts. (All the desserts on the menu involved cream. He chose what he thought was the least objectionable.)

Le Arcate is easily one of the best restaurants we tried in Bologna, and much of that is thanks to Davide, who was exceptionally attentive & passionate throughout the evening. Every dish we ordered was truly excellent: the Tagliatelle classiche al ragù bolognese was rich and deeply flavourful; the Linguine alle vongole lupini e tarallo napoletano was fresh, balanced, and elevated by the crisp tarallo; and the Frittura mista di pesce con paranza e verdure croccanti was incredibly fresh, well-seasoned, and perfectly crispy. The Crostatina con crema al cioccolato e frutti di bosco was homemade and absolutely delightful, with a buttery crust, smooth chocolate cream, and bright berries. The tap beer, Birra media bionda, was a pleasant surprise—rare to find in Italian restaurants where bottled or canned beer is more common—and it paired wonderfully with everything. To finish, Davide treated us to pistachio liqueurs for our anniversary, the perfect ending to our trip. We’ll definitely return.

Very nice place. The pictures don’t really show the nice clean and beautifully lit interior. Service is very friendly. We really enjoyed the food (notice: the fork rebate isn’t applied towards pizza). The only thing we didn’t like that much was the red wine that’s sold by the glass. We would rather pay more for something better or have a choice but the menu has only one kind of wine by the glass. Definitely a place we would come back to. And so do others. When we left the restaurant, it was filled with locals.
