7/10We are probably spoiled a bit as regular restaurant visitors but little on the menu really enchanted us. We had the 5-course tasting menu, and the food was good, and well prepared - no doubt about that - but hardly reached the level we expect from a Michelin starred kitchen. Also the wine pairing (some own labeling) couldn’t convince, esp the Vermouth pairing with the fish (which we found a bit dry too) was not a good choice to our taste. Esp. at the beginning it all felt rushed (we were still at the aperitif when the amuses bouche came and before finishing those the first course was served) while we had to wait quite a long time for the last dessert (after the ‘pre-dessert…”). We saw few of the staff smiling or giving the feeling of engagement. This all said, on the positive side, our waiter was very pleasant and joyful character which saved the evening for a part.

9/10The quality of food was really very good indeed with some interesting combinations which meant that while the dishes are recognisably Italian they also have a twist which excites the tastebuds. The menu is short and that is all to the good.

8/10Very inventive food, presented beautifully. The panna cotta desert with caramel, passion fruit and popcorn fired on all cylinders. Among the best food I ate in Milan.

9.5/10The food is really good and the space is warm. Good restaurant to recommand Maybe the portions are a bit small but delicious. The open kitchen is a good concept matching with the space

8/10Definitely a refreshing experience! Super friendly staff and surprising plates. The place is rather small and very crowded, so the sound can get a little intense. It also makes it cosy and even though it was very crowded, the friendly staff never lost us out of sight. Will come again for sure!

9.5/10Amazing food, quirky dishes and tastes. Small but cozy. You’ll have to jump in the laundry machine afterwords, but it is still worth the thrill.

10/10Very imaginative food. surprising combinations. Amazing wine list. Service a bit slow, but the kitchen (fully open, which I very much appreciate) is tiny.. Caring and very friendly, yet extremely professional service. A small plate that had arrived cold (an artichoke) was instantly replaced with no fus. Despite the background music (which I personally dislike) rather quiet. Highly recommended.

6.5/10We went for a 5 plate tasting menu. Ranged from very good (oysters with lard, onion butter with bread) to decent (cod with chicoree) to bad (gorgonzola risotto with beetroot and wasabi). The palate cleansers were fun. The waitress was also very friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed.

10/10I had read few fantastic reviews about Mater Bistrot and I was looking forward to this visit. It is an intimate restauran close to Porta Venezia with 5-6 tables inside and some outside seating. They had a tasting menu of 4-5-6 courses, but we wanted to try diferent dishes so we opted for a la carte. We started with the seafood "meatball", very tasty and a great way to start. Then the cod pil pil brioche with asparagous: very nice pilpil, smooth and packing lots of flavour. The duck meatballs (a bit like "bonbons" with paprika mayo were delicious little morsels, just a bit on the dry side. One of the stars of the night, Shimesaba mackerel with berries and a delicious creamy cashew sauce. The roasted tomatoe/bechamel and basil granita, a kind of take on the insalata tricolore, was ok, the only issue was the kind of watery pool left by the granita when melting, but the tomatoes were very tasty. Another favourite was the Panazella with melon, cucumber and grilled onions, refreshing and perfectly balanced sweet and savoury/acidic notes. Then came the tuna belly with Nduja and peas; initially we felt the nduja was slightly overpowering, but if you put the three elements together.... magic happened. The perfect finish came from a soft and moist pancake with yougurt mousse cream and roasted figs: sweet and salty bites from heaven. Interesting wines and friendly and profesional service made the whole night an experience not to be forgotten....I would be coming back for sure...If I live in Milan :-)

6/10The service was excellent. There were a few times I think the chef was playing a joke on me because I am American. I do not think that anyone would say wasabi, beat, and cinnamon risotto is a thing. A few of the small bites that were sent out between courses were beautiful but completely blew my palate out, I had to drink an entire glass of wine between courses to cleanse my mouth. Mentioning the wine the pairing was exciting, all the wines made you want to know more about them.

4.5/10We had high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately it was not at all what we've hoped for. Food was really salty and the wines did not match with the courses. After the main course, we mentioned that we didn't want to have the dessert, but we still had to pay for it!! Absolutely didn't deserve the bib gourmande in our opinion.

5/10Food impractical to eat and ended up staining all my clothes. We still were charged for the entire meal, which we paid without complaining as to not spoil our evening. Fish was improperly cooked. Only redeeming dish is the risotto which was great.

8/10Different in that one orders blindly without knowing what the chef will bring. Or you can order from a short but interesting selection of appetizers, small plates or large plates. Wine selection was limited to two whites and one red. Red wine was served at 80 degrees F. Service was casual, but not hurried. For a one time visitor from the United States it would have been more enjoyable if we could have known what the chef was planning. The kitchen is obviously very competent and if we had more time in Milan, we would like to go again
