7/10Attractive room (too chilly for patio which has great view of piazza) comfortable seating, prompt, friendly helpful service. Limited wine list. Very good rabbit. Other dishes were perfectly acceptable, but nothing special.

Fresh takes on Italian classics. Rather than generic “roasted vegetables,” we had ratatouille, imaginatively stretched to include fennel and carrots and PERFECT with fresh herbs sprinkled on the veggies. We followed up with an asparagus risotto that tasted like spring made edible. We finished with the Pavlova that was both beautiful and delicious. We were so happy with our dinner that we went back the next day for a delicious lunch. The staff was friendly and skillful, the decor inspiring with local art and historic tufa stones.

10/10Capitano del Popolo, in Orvieto’s Piazza del Popolo away from the tourist hub around the Duomo, serves marvelous food in a friendly, casual setting. Handmade pastas were superb. An Umbrian wine recommended to us was both superb and a remarkable value. Highly recommended!

10/10Please come here for the excellent Umbrian dishes and the welcoming, friendly staff. They play (dinner) music too which is a nice change from the quiet, traditional ristorante.

10/10The creativity & flavors of the 5 items we selected and enjoyed, were some the best, if not the best that we have consumed during our 2 months in Italy. Very good & not heavy handed. Lentils & beans! Rabbit! Artichoke, traditional! Bread salad! Finocchio Cacio e pepe perfect! Thank you!!

10/10The dishes here are just a little bit different from other places in Orvieto. And, that is a good thing. We always try to visit this restaurant when in Orvieto. It is consistently excellent. The dining rooms are attractive, as is their patio. I enjoyed my stuffed rabbit, and the baked chicken with vegetable also excellent. Good, varied winelist. And don't forget the amaro!

3.5/10Although the food was tasty…. If a little bit heavy on salt it was only luke warm ( both mains) with the side of roasted veg being cold…..ugh . We didn’t bother with dessert or coffee as the staff didn’t seem bothered

10/10We live in Italy and have enjoyed many a memorable meal here. But, after a while, one tires of the same old menu items. Capitano offered many variations on the traditional choices, for example, a sumptuous ravioli dish with datterini tomatoes and just a touch of cinnamon. Service was informed, unobtrusive, and fun. And the restaurant has a modern vibe we appreciated. We’ll be back for sure!

We had a wonderful experience. The 3 women who run this place really care about the food they produce. We had the eggplant caponata, risotto and ravioli. Highly recommended!
