Excellent location in Delft. They gave us a good table in the restaurant. Nice sharing concept and tasty dishes.

The meal on New Years Eve was very good if a little rushed as the restaurant clearly wanted to close up which was fair enough. It was a great pity that we were overcharged and still the restaurant has not refunded the error. So ..food good but this leaves a nasty taste . It could have been easily rectified on the night but …….. Maybe they’ll come good

The service was terrible. For the first time I have experienced, we were told we could not split the bill. The waitress was rude and ignorant.
CharcoalDear guest, Thank you for your feedback. We regret that you left disappointed, though we must be clear: we are not and do not aim to be a Michelin restaurant. Our concept and pricing are built on honesty and accessibility. Regarding splitting the bill: this is possible, but – as my colleague explained – a small fee applies. Just like anywhere else, additional services are never free; our “chimney must also keep burning.” As owner and chef, I can fully guarantee the quality of our cooking and recipes. Only four months ago, a mystery guest from the largest Dutch newspaper rated us a 7.5 for food and service. Against that background, your ratings of “2 for food, 2 for service, 2 for atmosphere” simply do not stand on solid ground. We respect everyone’s opinion, but believe in fair and balanced judgment. Kind regards, our lovely team Charcoal

The restaurant follows the concept of shared dining. The food is delicious. But the prices I find too high for the portion you get (and you’re supposed to share). Also I didn’t get the promised discount by booking through the Fork. So all in all nice restaurant but there are many other places in Delft that are just as tasty but more generous.

The chicken dish was really good! Very kind and enthusiastic waitress. Nice location in Delft with a good ambiance inside the restaurant. Would definitely recommend!

I had a mixed review. We were told chicken was unavailable (but noticed someone being served at the end of our dinner). The fish items were good, and the meat (beef and lamb) was chewy and overdone. Asking for €3 for extra sauces for main dishes is laughable—that too if the sauces were good enough! The location and tables are ok, though a bit cramped for space. Will I come back? Maybe not.

+3Great service and a lovely atmosphere with a very unique menu! I always passed by this place but this week finally visited with a group of friends. We had the flatbread and borani as a starter (on the house!). It was really tasty! I had the Asian vegetables and I also tried their gado gado but both of them were too spicy for me, unfortunately. But my friends had the Enterecote and Fesenjan and they really enjoyed it , But I wish they had more options for drinks, especially beer and wine because these go hand in hand with bbq and seafood. Overall, we all enjoyed our time in Charcoal and the owner Melvin was very kind to explain to us each dish in detail and he personally took interest in serving every table in the restaurant! I can't wait to try their seafood next time I visit. EDIT 28/12/2024: I had to come back to edit my initial review from 2 years ago noe that I've visited Charcoal again. They have significantly upgraded their food and wine menus; now there's plenty of wine options

By far, this is the worst experience I ever had at a restaurant. We ordered food for three. Starters were first delivered in a random orders, and we didn’t have any cutlery nor napkins. Once the main dishes were delivered, one of us didn’t have any plates. The waiter explained to us it was our error. And we were flabbergasted, as all of us understood the same thing. Next we discovered a label in the cooked vegetables and felt both the fish and meat were smelly. If you’re used to purchasing meat and fish, , this is definitely not a good sign, and an even worst when it’s cooked. When the third main dish was delivered, the meat was so smelly that customers in front of us were searching for the origin of the smell! We returned the meat and at this point we just wanted to pay and leave! I hope none of us will be ill! All in all, i it's not possible to have this kind of experience when a dish costs over 30 euros. This is definitely a place to avoid.

Food was really average, nothing special. And price/quality the price was extremely high.

Nice place with nice some nice tasty dishes. Bakkeljauw was very (very) salty though and we had to ask twice for one of our drinks to be served.

We really wanted to love this restaurant and were excited to try it when visiting Delft from the US. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the staff was great. We had a wonderful wine but the food was very dissapointing. We all ordered fish dishes and they were all very over cooked and dry.

Too crowded, way too many people cramped into eachother. Loud music on top of that. Food is okay, but not special for the high prices. Friendly staff though.
