10/10I confess I haven’t been to a fado house over a decade, but segredo d’alfama is a great restaurant with amazing service! The staff welcome you and makes you feel like family. The music was amazing. Sonia took us through a journey about fado and it’s meanings. Thank you all for a magical night. I will definitely be back

8.5/10Wonderful experience to cap off our family and friends vacation to Portugal. The fado performers were amazing and the food prompt and delicious. I was born and raised in the Portuguese culture, the other 7 in our party were not and they loved everything g about the experience and food. Wonderful evening!

7.5/10The host was super friendly, the Fado music good, and the ambience warm and cozy. The food however could be better. The salt levels were very high. Having said that. I will definitely go there again.

9.5/10Wonderful little Fado restaurant in Alfama. The food selection and quality were very nice. Service was outstanding and personal, the artists and music were also amazing. The only remark I have is the temperature, seems the air conditioning had to be turned off during the performances and this was quite uncomfortable.

10/10The food is delicious and the music is superb. Even though I don’t speak Portuguese the emotion in the music was heartfelt and brought tears to my eyes. What a perfect night in Lisbon.

9.5/10The venue was small and intimate with top quality gourmet food and amazing Fado musicians. The music evoked nostalgia and although the language was Portuguese, the emotional impact was felt!

7.5/10We wanted to hear some Fado during dinner time and the restaurant was recommended to us by the rental company. Food was great, service was attentive and nice. But it was awkward that we were the only ones in there for what seemed like hours, The fado musicians were good and it made the experience nicer, but the whole experience fell flat. It was also very expensive for what it is. I would not return and I would only recommend it with some hesitation.

7/10Gosh where to start! Firstly the menu is fixed price at €50pp, but includes four courses, coffee and “show” which turned out to be a couple of local lads and a handsome guy singing traditional Portuguese folk songs. Don’t get us wrong, they were actually very good and added to the evening, especially as we didn’t realise what “show” meant on the menu until they got going. In the meantime the food arrived varying in quality and the soup never materialised. So interesting, alternative abd an experience.

5/10We were disappointed with the food. Shrimp appetizer was bland. Lamb appetizer was fatty. Cod entree was also bland. The rice with seafood was supposed to have prawns, clams, octopus and cod but I got over cooked shrimp not prawns, no clams, squid instead of octopus . this dish was bland as well. Certainly not worth the money. Fado was great and our waitress was very nice and recommended a lovely bottle of wine.

10/10We arrived slightly ahead of our reservation time and the owner greeted us warmly and we selected our table. We were worried that, since we both had jeans on, we might be a bit underdressed, but the it was a casual environment. After we were seated, the owner came and sat by us and told us about the menu. Then we opted for the prix fixe menu which included starter, appetizer, main menu, and dessert. On the side we ordered a bottle of red wine from the Douro region and sparkling water. There were three active servers and each one of them stopped by our table to make sure we were OK. The Fado guitarist even opened our bottle of wine. It felt like being in someone’s home with the family taking care of you. The starter was several slices of good bread with a tuna fish spread, herbed butter and jamon – all of which were delicious. As we noshed, several groups arrived and each group received personal attention from the staff. Soon, our next course arrived which included a fried type of cornbread with chorizo in a sauce. My wife had the “green soup,” apparently Fado standard fare for the performers. The soup was potato based and included lots of thyme a very thinly sliced spinach – both were delicious. The lights dimmed a bit and the performers entered the restaurant. The owner explained in Portuguese, English and French about what to expect during the performance and requested everyone remain quiet during the performance. The first song was instrumental with two guitarists – both very talented. The Fado singer then joined the group and sang moving Fado songs and the audience was very appreciative. The lights came up and service resumed. Our main course arrived – I had very tender grilled octopus and my wife had the baked cod – both dishes came with potatoes in a kind of buttery sauce and were delicious. The Fado group performed four sets throughout the evening. For dessert, we had a lime mousse and a chocolate mousse – both great, followed by a small glass of port and a glass of amarguinha (Portuguese almond liqueur). The music and the food were both amazing in this intimate setting.
