8/10Fizemos a última reserva disponível 21:30h. No geral, gosto, e a comida é ótima 🥰

10/10A second amazing meal at DownUnder by Justin Jennings. This time we went entirely by the recommendations from Chef Jennings after our first meal, starting with the Prawn starter. We were told it was delicious last time, but we avoided it because we assumed a prawn served in the typical manner, with the shell and head still on just looking at you. But you know what happens when you assume…No this was cubed prawn in a mild sauce served almost like a three layer parfait. It had savory puréed vegetables at the bottom with a small scoop of mango gelato at the top, and the prawns in the middle. Miguel, our excellent server, said “make sure you get a little of each taste in each bite.” And wow! The flavors joined magnificently, with the savory vegetables, tender prawn, and sweet but tangy sorbet making a perfect combination. Chef Jennings later told us he aims to combine multiple textures in each dish, along with including some sweet and some savory to combine in each bite. For example, for the main, I had the kangaroo steak with roasted vegetables and beetroot jam. The tender, juicy steak met with the sweetness of the jam and the savory vegetables for an incredible taste. And hey, if you’ve never had kangaroo, give it a try. I was amazed at how tender and lean it was, with no “gamey” flavor that you might get from deer or bison. My wife had the Corvina, also fabulous, with thin, edible skin quick fried and seasoned to give the tender white fish an almost cracker-like crust. For dessert, Chef recommended the fig pudding. As Americans, “pudding” brings memories of the Jell-o Pudding commercials, disturbing for multiple reasons. But in most other English-speaking countries, it just means dessert…and to not gush too much, it was a perfect choice and a perfect ending to another amazing night. As we’ll only have one more shot at this before we have to leave Lisbon, Chef recommended that we try 3 starters and share a main, so we can enjoy the tastes we haven’t tried yet. Looking forward to it!

9/10We did the 8 course tasting menu, and the food was fantastic. Service could be a little more attentive between courses, ensuring glasses were ready for the next wine before the food is served. Overall, it was an excellent evening with high quality dishes and we would return.

10/10We often say that we have to think outside the box! This is totally true to discover this restaurant with its unique cuisine. Here we feel the inspiration of the different countries where this Chef worked. The dishes are excellent and their presentation is also a feast for the eyes. Also worth highlighting is the server's passion for explaining and presenting the dishes. So go there without hesitation!

10/10We greatly enjoyed our dinner here. The menu is small but artfully and carefully crafted by the renowned chef Justin Jennings. We were honored to meet Chef Jennings during our visit and discussed some of the unique preparations, such as the kangaroo tartare we enjoyed as our starter. The meat was tender and full of flavor and served with black toast slices with a smoky flavor that brought the spices and taste in the meat to life. The bread for the toast is made with squid ink to give it the black color. The toasted slices are then sealed in a container where smoke is introduced,to to bring the unique flavor to the tartare. I had the shepherds pie. This is a hearty traditional dish served in pubs in the UK and Australia, made with mashed potato, stewed and minced meat (like beef or lamb), vegetables and meat juices or gravy. While DownUnder’s Shepherd’s Pie met this general criteria, each ingredient was prepared at a next-level of flavor and quality that made the whole dish a delicious experience. The meat was incredibly fresh kangaroo, cooked in its natural juices and seasoned to a rich, deep flavor that was the core to the assembly of tastes surrounding it. While other versions have so much mashed potato that it’s the primary ingredient, here there was just enough to gather the sauce and help you savor all the flavors together. My wife had the sliced duck breast, which was perfectly cooked and so good that she threatened me with her fork when I reached for a bite. I did taste the puréed smoked carrots that made the bed for the duck. It was worth the few band-aids on my hand as it gave me a hint of what’s to come when I try it next time we go. In short, this is a delicious experience from a wildly talented chef and team, served in an inviting, intimate setting.

10/10We visited followed the great reviews on tripadvisor and The Fork. We were not disappointed and had a superb meal with good wine. We had the vegetable gyoza and S+P calamari, my wife had the sea bass, and I had the 36 hr pork. The dishes were exceptional in their prep, cooking and taste. My wife had the passion fruit meringue and loved it, I had a small taste and loved it too. Superb value for food of this very high quality. Well put together fusion food with a Portuguese leaning, but obvious Asian and Australian influence. Up there with the best meals we’ve had anywhere and we’ve enjoyed some exceptional fine dining. This was fine dining without too much of the fuss and better for it - focus was in great cooked food with awesome flavours without too much fuss - perfect. Loved it, and would visit again for sure!

10/10This was one of our favourite meals of the entire three month trip. My grandfather and dad got the 6 course menu and I got the Kangaroo. Extremely memorable and very tasty. Chef Justin even came to explain the dishes and it made our whole night. Can’t recommend this restaurant any more.
