10/10Ristorante Casa Taccardi is a truly authentic family owned neighbourhood restaurant and worth the short trip from the Matera centre. It offers farm to fork dining celebrating the local produce of Basilicata. We ate some of the best food of our stay in Matera at this restaurant, which included appetisers of fungi Cardincelli and purea di fave e cicoria and a secondi of Pescato del Giorgio. We also enjoyed some amazing local wines, one of which was a delicious Primitivio called Chicca. The family who own this restaurant are obviously passionate about food and their local heritage and want to share it with those who choose to dine at their restaurant. We were greeted with warmth and friendliness. At the end of our meal we were also offered a complimentary shot of homemade Mellonchella too. Delicious! If you like local food made with love and want to avoid the tourist restaurants in the centre this is one you shouldn’t miss.

10/10From the moment we arrived we knew we had made the right choice. This is perhaps the best meal we have had during our trip in Puglia. The service was amazing too. The food was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. The items were unique and flavourful. We will remember the evening for a very long time.

10/10We had an unforgettable dining experience at this restaurant in Matera, where the owner personally visited each table to recommend dishes. While we were aware that Italians usually avoid pasta for dinner, we simply couldn't resist the allure of their offerings and found it hard to settle on just one. The owner generously suggested serving smaller portions of various pasta dishes, allowing us to indulge in a delightful sampling spree. Every dish was exceptional, bursting with flavor and authenticity. We're already looking forward to our next visit to Matera and the remarkable 900 Restaurant!

6/10Food was ok, however there was a large American bus party who took up almost all of the main restaurant space which is essentially a tall and long stone arch. It was extremely noisy. Service was fairly quick however lacked personal attention and warmth. The whole experience was underwhelming.

3.5/10The wh]ole experience was not up to Italian standards as we perceived from the write-up on The Fork. From the moment we were seated we felt las if they really didn’t want to serve non- Italians . They should remove fish filet off the menu or learn how to properly filet a fish. The so-called sea bass was more like a plate of Portuguese sardines that were over cooked. Total waste at 26 euros! We didn’t even get an ice bucket to chill our wine bottle as we saw on other tables. Matera was a lovely place It was really sad that we had this as our last meal.

8/10The food was delicious and the ambiance was good. The restaurant was empty, only we and one more table/ Prices are higher than average. The disappointment was that they didn’t provided the discount we have booked with with a stupid explanation that we were three persons instead of 4 / although we order like four / and in the menu with small letters in Italian a number of dishes were excluded.

4.5/10It’s extremely rare for us to write a negative review however the house red wine was very sweet (as if sugar had been added to it) although this was replaced with an alternative without charge. It’s rare to be served such a poor red wine in Italy. The spicy rib of beef was tough and served as a steak with no seasoning. We booked the restaurant through The Fork and should have received a 10% discount for some of the meals however this was not deducted from our bill. The waitress was not particularly friendly and although the restaurant was highly reviewed, the whole experience was sadly disappointing and the most expensive out of the 5 restaurants we tried on our visit. On a positive note the cod main course was excellent!

5.5/10Clearly this restaurant appeals to Italians but as a foreign tourist we felt it lacked atmosphere. We didn’t feel particularly welcomed We were sat in a side room next to drinks fridges which didn’t help. The service was efficient but not engaging, maybe a language or cultural issue. The food didn’t seem to be anything special . It was well cooked with good ingredients so possibly it was our expectations that meant we didn’t relish it as much as we had expected. We did however really like the pasta with tomatoes and sausage, really tasty. I have traveled for business in Italy for many years (Genoa, Rome & Naples) and also extensively as a tourist. I felt this was a rather surprisingly disappointing experience. As a tourist and not likely to be a repeat customer I don’t think they were really interested To be fair quality of ingredients and cooking was good just not right for us. Others will probably disagree, an experience is always personal
