This little restaurant really made our night! We loved the family feeling, the food and drink were delicious, the staff were beyond helpful and friendly, and the Fado music? Unbelievable talent. If we ever find ourselves in Lisbon again we will definitely be back.

Fado music was up for tourists, which was fine. The waiter forced us to take the 45€ menu, after we agreed he was very nice to us. Food was good, but nothing special - I would say “tourist trap”. If possible search elsewhere, but this is also okay for first in Lisbon.

Miss Nina we only work with menu fado or minimum consumption for the same price. If you want to listen professional Fado you have to pay for it but you will discover not only that but also that we are the must affordable fado house. Oh and there is no such thing as tourist fado. Hope you enjoy your stay in Portugal, not lowcost stay.

i was in 2 other fado places, here mostly is like restaurant ,, door is open people coming and going other fado places they close doors at 8 pm with special ambiance

Having been to a nice restaurant with a fado show the night before, we thought it would have been a nice experience to repeat and we chose this restaurant instead. Sorry to say it was the wrong choice. The location itself is beautiful, but service is very impersonal, food quality is average and totally overpriced compared to other restaurant in the same range and area. And cherry in top, it only accepts cash (no cards) but they don't bother to tell you when you enter, they simply tell you to withdraw to a nearby atm when they bring the bill. Not so lovely when it rains.

The entertainment is the real reason to go. Not to be an ugly American, but asking to have a substitution didn’t go well. The food was good and the service was passable other than not making the switch from fries to rice. The Fado was excellent and that alone saved the evening.

Food was really good although the waiter we had in the beginning didn’t say we have to pay for all the menu set (he said it is ok to pay just for main dish + he said we need to choose bottle of wine instead of having it by glass as we wanted, why?). We got also wrong table (not the one we booked - I could HARDLY seen some fado singers). The waiters also gave us wrong food and then were nowhere to be seen. Food was good, fado singers as well but still don’t recommend it this very place.

Overall it was fine as an experience the musicians were great as the singers too, the service was ok however nowhere was written they only accept cash and we had to withdraw money after dinner I think this should be the first thing to write on the menu or Atleast somewhere.

the fado music was beautiful. the food was underwhelming and the service was not good. i was there alone and saw a marked different with how i was treated and how travelers in groups or couples were treated. overall, worth it for some great fado but don’t expect more.

Unlike some of the very pricey, touristy Fado places in Lisbon, Sao Miguel d'Alfama is a warm, homey, unpretentious place where the tables talk with each other, and the talented, passionate musicians chat with the guests like they belong in the place. There were also some equally passionate Fado loving Lisbon people there, who seemed to know the repertoire intimately, and were welcoming to me, an English Canadian. There was a pleasant lack loud tourists shouting at each other between sets. This felt respectful of the music and musicians, and created a calm, attentive atmosphere A good kitchen for very well prepared, and unpretentious food at a reasonable price. Some people were eating fresh whole fish, and I had a tasty Bacalhau com natas. The shrimp appetizer was excellent, and was served with cheese, olives and breads. I had a wonderful time, and it was clear that the other guests - and the talented musicians and excellent singers - did as well. The next time I'm in Lisbon, I will be back at Sao Miguel d'Alfama.

We went to three fado dinners while in Lisbon. All were great; however, Sao Miguel d’Alfama provided the best value. $40 Euro’s (the lowest cost of the three) included dinner, a bottle or wine, a 1.5l bottle of water, buffet style desert bar, coffee and ginginha. The fado was great and involved the audience. The whole house was having a great time. Fatima - the owner - was very friendly and personable. Fatima thank you. May you and your family keep Sao Miguel d’Alfama providing quality music for many years.

It was super delicious! We had an amazing end of the year the food was really good, the atmosphere was incredible cozy! The owner of the restaurant was really kind to us as to everyone! We had an incredible pleasant time! They offer us a really beautiful evening, and also they gave us tips on where to go for the best fireworks!! Highly recommend!!!!

Perfect place to sit and listen to Fado music. Be prepared to keep silence as respect for the performers. Also be prepared to drop 30€ per person minimum. Place is owned and run by a very kind lady named Fatima and her artists are a wonder to behold. 200/10 guarantee you will be beguiled.
