10/10An intimate friendly place with delicious original dishes that stand out from standard fare. I had fried anchovies that came skewered on long sticks served with two types of sauce, followed by duck on black cabbage with dollops of orange sauce. Both were super.

9/10Very good restaurant. We had the beef tartare which was OK. The sauce that the dish came with overwhelmed the beef. The cappelacci was not bad, not my favorite. However the duck breast over black cabbage was superb. One of the best duck dishes I’ve ever had. Good wine selection. Efficient and friendly service.

8/10Food not up to my expectations, especially considering it's a Bib Gourmand recommendation. Food salty and a bit tasteless. Wine selection by the glass was poor and expensive. Price/quality not good.

4.5/10Overpriced Tourist Trap €6 for stale bread we never ordered. Do not believe the hype. L'Ortone’s best days are clearly behind it. Those Michelin stickers from 2020 to 2023 say it all. Foreign guests get shunted upstairs by the perspex-enclosed kitchen, and the loos. No atmosphere apart from the thud of meat cleavers. Service was curt bordering on unfriendly. Pasta arrived hotter than the sun, think Chef Mike made an appearance. Anchovies were over-fried and bland. No care, no charm. Florence has far better/tastier and friendlier places. You'd be wise to give this one a miss.

Dear Oliver, thank you for sharing your point of view. We would, however, like to clarify a few aspects. Our bread basket — handmade and prepared daily — is clearly indicated on the menu as part of the service; it is never added arbitrarily. As for the upstairs dining room, it is certainly not a “tourist area,” but a space designed to offer more tranquillity and a privileged view of the kitchen. Table assignments are not based on guests’ origins, but solely on reservations and availability. We are also surprised by your impression of the service, which is usually one of the most appreciated aspects of our restaurant. Regarding the dishes, everything is cooked to order:the temperature of the plates reflects this, and we do not use reheating methods. We're sorry that some of the dishes weren’t to your taste, but we assure you that both ingredients and preparation follow the standards we have consistently maintained over time — as also confirmed by our recent mentions in major gastronomic guides. Best,L'Ortone

10/10Great little restaurant somewhat off the beaten track north of Santa Croce. It was a beautiful November lunchtime so we were able to sit outside as the market opposite was closing. Food fantastic. Swordfish carpaccio and fried anchovies to start followed by pork leg and beef cheek for mains. Great wine list which was significantly better value than others in the city centre. Staff were lovely. Waiter told us the legend of St. Martino and why we were so blessed with the warm weather. Nice touch. Fully deserved it’s Bib Gourmand and will likely soar higher. Highly recommended.

7/10We had read excellent reviews of L'Ortone and were excited to try the food. Upon arrival, we were seated next to the toilet, which smelled strongly of cleaning product. The waiter promptly served us water but then neglected us for a further 35 minutes before taking our drink and food order. This only happened after my wife had to ask if we could order. We felt invisible as the waiter chose to serve surrounding tables that had arrived after us. Once we ordered, we moved through our starter, main course, and dessert relatively quickly, finishing in about an hour. The gnocchi was delicious, and the waiter kindly went to the effort of splitting the dish for us. The duck and beef dishes were also very tasty; however, it would have been helpful to be informed that neither dish came with any greens so we could have ordered a side to accompany them. Both the tiramisu and the apple cake for dessert were delicious. Overall, the food was excellent but the service let them down

10/10It’s a very nice restaurant! I really enjoyed all dishes I had, especially their homemade egg spaghetti with grilled tomato. It’s become the best tomato spaghetti in my life so far!

10/10Food was lovely, My swordfish carpaccio was delicious followed by braised octopus & yummy roast potatoes.. The only slight issue was my husband’s very tasty grilled cockerel that lacked a jus or sauce so was a little dry. He enjoyed the starter of fried anchovies. Creamy ice cream to finish. Wine was fab & not overpriced. Service great too.

10/10We had a delicious lunch! The service was perfect. Such a nice authentic place. The neighborhood is lovely and the fresh market just across the street. Lots of vendors to browse. Highly recommend.

10/10Excellent food, wine and even a few craft beer options. Sincere thanks to John Marco for his patience (with my embarrassing Italian) and for his attentive and kind service. All of his recommendations were spot on. Grazie mille!

6.5/10The sea urchin Tagliolino and mushroom gnocchi were great. Unfortunately the octopus was overcooked to chewiness and the peas and cheese did not complement the octopus well. The Carasau bread millefeuille with smoked eggplant cream was a very unappealing texture and taste.

10/10The food was amazing, very nice and (pro) active service. We enjoyed fresh octopus, the pasta with tomato’s and very delicious deserts. The Michelin star is very well earned - and I hope the 2nd is soon to come.
